start collecting! but need a bigger one than in your truck!

Haha! I'm not real short, but my house and the old house were both built for very tall people. I can't touch 2/3rds of the cabinets in my kitchen without crawling on the counters, lol. Everyone is saying that they're buying me stools so they don't get a call to come take me to the ER, lol.
And my house is the opposite, I literally have to stand in the kitchen to see in the bathroom mirror...as it's at about chest height for me. And I get a backache from working at my kitchen counter as it's short.
hey, me too

daddy always said, never aim a gun at anyone unless you're ready to kill him, he also said, "if you can't whip him honestly, pick you up a 2x4" and go to work on him

Smart Daddy!

And smart Momma!
Hmm. This isn't really what I needed to hear. :)
Gah, not sure why I quoted this, helps if I actually reply once a day, not once every 3 days!
They need a chicken hotline to give folks clues on what to do step by step in easy to understand fashion to care for birds..
There is one: OH SALLY!
I just realized something.. You might have a chicken problem when you go take a bath and you have a hen in a cage on the other side of the room staring at you....
LOL No, it's only a problem if you forgot the chicken was there. Though, my poor chicken would prolly need therapy after watching me shower.
:gig I wish my bathroom was big enough!!
Yeah, me too...I can wash my feet in the shower from the toilet....
We bought two old wooden play pens to use for brooders, will probably put them to use shortly for some meat bird chicks... for 5 bucks each we couldn't pass up the deal. Don't forget Evan Williams! We love their 'Honey Select'... awesome stuff in hot tea for a relaxing evening drink!!! We have 3 cat crates, one dog crate (plastic) and two portable kennels (wire) and a couple of other cages. Then we got a great deal on some regular chicken crates, so have 3 of them I think.... We have been known to travel with numerous animals of any combination on many occassions... never know what you'll find in one of our vehicles! We even take one of our cats camping with us, since he pouts horribly if he has to stay home like the other cats! He loves going with the dogs... surprised he doesn't bark, with the way he behaves most of the time! Tomorrow I have to take 5 cats to the vet for shots/checkups... that is always a treat!
Better you than me.
Hello, I'm from Northeast/Central PA, in Columbia County. Was wondering what Large Fowl breeds everyone has. My girls are looking to hatch some eggs, so they can show them at our local fair in the fall.
Welcome!
OK guys. I need a total who's coming to the class. Sallyx2, Heather x2, Edx1?, Tinax2, who else is coming? Missy are you guys coming? Was on the phone with Stacy @ the Dept of Ag and getting names so she can get a tally with the class being next week.
Yes me, Sorry, was waiting to hear from Step-daughter if her loser husband would be home to watch the 2 yo..finally just told her he's keeping him. Will send in my app today, do they just want me to keep the check and hand it in at class?
How high is your fence? I am thinking of an open top for a a new run (but not for the new gang!) for the same reason (more space), but I worry for two reasons. Is a six foot fence high enough. and are the hawks that are around big enough to get my chickens? IDK how big a hawk has to be to go after a full grown chicken. So tell me what you do, because I am very interested.
I have 4-5 ft fence around my run.....and my chickens just hop over it anyway. We had a hawk over the property on Sunday...when it got close enough, the roos just started calling or rushing the hens to get them into the brush so no losses.
I'm near Bloomsburg, at the moment we have a mix flocked of EE, 1 RIR, 1 SLW covered by 1 Ameraucana roo, 1 EE roo, and a mixed Brahma roo. I'm trying to find homes for 2 of my roos. My girls want to hatch some eggs(set on the 13 of March after we come back from vacation in TN).
Welcome!
How do I put myself on the map?
Give me your zipcode. You can do it in the thread, but be warned, I'm not being diligent about replying every day.
So, my pretty, (strokes chin) my evil plan is working. Bwaa haaaa haaa!
LMAO I read MCc's whole thing...and for some reason in my head she went to Blarneys...until you replied...and then I realized you REALLY are a chicken/duck pusher! LOL
Betta - thanks for the info. I was just at tsc and the Dumor chick starter was listed as chicken, Turkey, quail and maybe other stuff. That was the 24% starter. Is it bad my coffee table is taken up by two hatchers and there is a container of wine fermenting next to it?
Only if you don't share the wine.
Lawyers are excellent deterrents for hawks. Just hang one upside down in a tree. Works every time!
I assume you're volunteering? (saw the other posts as well..but this is what happens when I'm days behind)
Adams county pa just outside of Gettysburg. Looking for a few Light Brahma hens or pullets.
Welcome, just up the road in Gardners, but have no Brahma.
You can build one cheaper and better with an old cooler, some light sockets, spare wire, a $15 water heater thermostat from home dept. Not real fond of the little giants at tsc.
You volunteering to build for those of us less mechanically inclined? By less mechanically inclined I mean not sure which end of the screwdriver you're supposed to hold!

Bwahaha. Make sure you read Sally's thing BEFORE you attempt to make one or you'll be in the same boat I am... sitting on a cabinet bator that blows cold air!

Betta the good thing about that is when you pack it full of eggs after day 10 they will start emitting more heat and you will need to add a cooling unit! Most huge cabinets have heating and cooling because of the heat the eggs create growing! food for thought!! LOL

I have been told if you raise them with chickens they will even go in to the coop to roost at night! Thinking about getting 2 to add to my bunch and see if it does in fact work! I'd like them to be penned up at night!
This has been true for me. Mine were locked in the coop for a couple weeks before I let them out, though. Most of the time, they go into the coop at night, but occasionally they decide to sleep in the trees near the coop.
