I lost my first girl this morning. I had been checking the disease and illness section. Too many opinions, all seemed to fit. One difference. I didn't see a single thing that would kill her this fast!
On Sunday she seemed slow. Not bad slow. Just "I am waiting my turn at the FF" slow. I pet her, and asked if she was okay. Her answer was to run off. I thought I was imagining that she seemed sick. Monday she was moving around, but looked kinda puffed up. Nothing else seemed off. Maybe I was looking at a different girl, and this one was just coming out of a dust bath or something? Tuesday morning she was sitting on the branch. It is a roost that they only use during the day. I think she slept there. There was a small pile of greenish runny poo under her. It was the only green pile, and just the size of one poop. That is when I began to worry. Last night while talking to the cashier at TSC she said that the chicken may have gotten into something. THEN I remembered the broken light bulb I saw. My question there is that there was no bloody stool or crying in pain. She was not egg bound. No one else is acting odd in any way. Any ideas? Should I worry about the rest of the gang?

Hugs for you too. That sucks, and wish I could help. On another thread someone was posting that Cocci. can kill quickly, in 5 days or less, and can be present without signs of bloody stool?

start collecting! but need a bigger one than in your truck!
I have a ton of them at the house...BIG ones Just saw 4 more at work. Big cubes.
LOL No, it's only a problem if you forgot the chicken was there. Though, my poor chicken would prolly need therapy after watching me shower.
Yeah, me too...I can wash my feet in the shower from the toilet....
Yes me, Sorry, was waiting to hear from Step-daughter if her loser husband would be home to watch the 2 yo..finally just told her he's keeping him. Will send in my app today, do they just want me to keep the check and hand it in at class?
If the chicken would need therapy , ya might as well make it fun therapy lmao

I'm trying to picture you washing your feet from the toilet lol

And sure you can bring the check to the class

Quote: I looked that up last night when someone mentioned it in another thread. I see how Cocci could fit, except for the lack of any of the internet sites saying a lack of bloody stools could happen. It leans towards chicks and already sick birds getting it worse, and dying from blood loss only. The food and water stay clean, I feed FF (ACV is supposed to help), and the coop is sized for 30 birds, while I have (had) 17. That means 8 sq ft/bird. Cadbury, a cross beak, doesn't get proper nutrition, and I keep thinking if it were a disease, she would be dead or symptomatic too.
Is there a thread that you know of that talks about it still being a possibility in my situation? Does ANYONE think I need to treat the whole rest of the gang when there are no symptoms?

We have 40 eggs in our incubator. Yesterday was day 20. Last night the power went off at 8:30pm. I have no backup so I covered the incubator with blankets. The house temp dropped to 60. The power came back on at 5 am this morning. To my surprise we have three pips so far. Is there any hope? This is our first time at incubating. We have light sussexs and blue wheaten in there. I'm hopeful but very worried.
