Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We just saw the Easter Bunny wearing a top hat and long coat tails riding a unicycle down Butter Rd in Dover.
Thank goodness I didn't have to work Sunday and drive thru Dover ... I probably would have driven off the road seeing that lol!
I found out what happens after they hatch ...

Kiomey came over today to pick up her newly hatched chicks. She is really such a wonderful girl. She came with lots of hugs, a hyacinth, an adorable chicken figurine, and a beautiful leaf medallion handmade by her Loverman. You are the best Ash!!! You really made my day!

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I want to put this out there. We are heading to the show in York in a couple of weeks. We are interested in buying some show quality black rosecombs and tolbunt polish. Thank you and back to your regularly scheduled thread.....
We're all about hooking people up with chickens, puppies, assorted farm animals, coops, bators, and apparently even significant others...so don't apologize, this is the perfect place to look for your birds!
Alright, here are the 3 bantams I picked up sitting in the palm of my hand. The poss. Sebright is on the tips of my fingers. Every day I look at her comb, the more convinced I become that this is actually a WLR Cornish bantam...
It's early, and my mind was addled by the marriage last night...so are you saying you do or don't think it's a sebright?
I don't know what everyone else is experiencing, but here the weather is crazy! In one hour I have seen sun, rain, snow, back to sun, drizzling, and now it is overcast. I am not sure whether to let everyone out.
We had similar weather, minus the snow....but it had it's moments.
Hey guys and gals. I lost my job a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure I can't really afford to keep my chickens. They are 7 weeks and need a coop and I just don't have the money to buy or build one. So, I would like to rehome my chickens. I have 5 pullets, 7 weeks. Two BR, 2 RIR and one really pretty white americauna. I'm in York county all the way at the bottom. (I'm 5 minutes from the MD line.) It breaks my heart but I want my chickens to have a good home and I just can't afford to give them what they need. I can also give away some grit, feed and bedding and my heat lamp if wanted. Please PM me if you know someone who might be interested. Thanks!
Sorry to hear you may have to give up your girls..i know that has to be super tough.
Congratulations to Fisherlady and Radioman Missy and her new DH :love :love :love

I know they still had wildflower honey left by the end of the Farm Show. Whether they still do now, can't say. I think that when a lot of folks think of 'raw' honey, they often mean 'unprocessed'. Think of the kind from the health food store that's called Really Raw honey IIRC, that has bits of wax in it and is usually crystallized. Maybe even a bee leg or 2. Most honey is strained, and the size of the mesh in the strainer determine how much pollen is left in the finished honey. So even though it is technically 'raw' as in unheated, it can have a lot of the pollen strained out of it, making it look clearer and more 'processed'.
Does the pollen effect the flavor, or just the appearance (not that I want to eat a bee leg!)?
sounds like lots of people here to point you in the right direction... been fascinated for years, I am the weird one that watches the bee's in the garden instead of chasing them away.....I plant sunflower just to attract them, they seem to like them.
I am in the want bees but DH won't let me camp.
Not so weird! We like our honey bees also... right now we don't have a good place for them, but they are on our list! When I was growing up my dad had 3 hives behind our place. When he would 'smoke' the bees to clean hives out or collect honey frames it was my job to run the frames down to the house (about a hundred yards or so) for my mom to put them into a big canning pot she'd have on the stove. She would melt the combs, skim off the wax, pour the honey through cheese cloth into jars and set them into the cupboard. I know I loved the different flavors we would get depending on the time of year we collected the honey and even some years tasted different when it was really wet or dry. In all the years I did that I can only remember being stung a few times (maybe 3 or 4?). Now if you are talking yellow jackets.... they are a whole different ball game!! Horror stories there!
The only 2 times I've ever been stung...I stepped on the bee in barefeet...can't really blame the poor bee.
The latest additions to our farm!! 2 black ewes! Mommy is doing great and is so patient with me handling the babies. Good mothers are worth their weight in gold... :)
Awww.....they're beautiful!

I live between Middletown and Elizabethtown. For anyone outside south central PA, between Harrisburg and Lancaster Co. line.
Oh you are close to a lot of us.
can someone explain to me what chicken math is? I see people talking about it and I'm not sure what it is. Thank You!
You say I want to get 3 chickens. You get them home and are on here and see cute chicks and proceed to inquire. You see cute chicks when you walk into the local feed mill or TSC and they "follow" you home. Now that is chicken addition. You see one that needs rehoming and you add it to your group. You go to someone from here's house and want one or two of this kind and BAM you come home with 5. You begin hatching and now you have multiplication. All in All it's chicken math.
