How much do you think running 2- 250's heat lamps cost a month? anyone ever figure it out?

I posted this on FB, but will also put here! I have 12 eggs in the bator, and Last night, I candled all the eggs! My Roommate and Son and Ex all there standing over my should pointing at the eggs going OMG! That is awesome!!! LOL And it looks like I have 2 that are No good, I left them in since I am not 100% sure, I also took notes on every egg!

This is going so much better than I thought! 1st time trying to hatch! So excited to see how the rest of the process goes! I am a little nervous though, since it got hot out, the temperature in the house changed, and I am trying to get the bator temperature back to a steady temp..

I had to buy masks too. I sing, and DE was tearing my lungs up. Took me a while to figure it out too! I kept thinking I was getting sick, and realized it was always after dusting & cleaning the coops.

Chad is another hour east of me. I looked...the half way point for you and I would be Bedford, I believe, it's about 2 hours for each of us. I could possibly be persuaded to do it on a weekday...if enough people want chicks/eggs to make the trip worth it. I will most likely have my 2 yo grandson with me....and don't get him till 9 am so noon would probably be the best time to plan to meet.

My schedule is going to be changing starting May 1. So if need be I can do more running...

That works. OK, everybody give me a list of what you want. If you are between me & Missy or want to meet us in Bedford let us know. The rest of you can collect your items from Missy. Chad, whatcha got for me that Missy can bring along...LOL

You figure you are running a kWh in 2 hrs just with those 2 lamps running. So 12 kWh in a day. 360 KWh in a month on two lamps. So one lamp at 250W creates 1kWh in 4 hours.

1 250W bulb
0.45 per day
$12.60 / month

2= $25.20/ month
3=$37.80/month

To keep chooks warm


So Gmama 3 lamps running since October = $226.80

If this is going to happen on a Monday, awesome. Tuesday is okay too. Otherwise I will need them dropped off.
Chicken math. Now it comes from other states!

One of the 3 quail I got at the auction. I brought 4 home but 1 didn't make it through the night. I think it got too cold and it wasn't strong enough. The other 3 are running around and looking good. I was told they are 1 week old. Anyone know what breed they are?

Our neighbor and farmer who farms our fields had his brand new chicken barns (2 of them) burn to the ground last night. They were supposed to get chickens in two weeks. Thank good there were no birds in them, but still sad.

I saw that on the news and wondered if any of my BYC buds were nearby.

2 x 250w x 1 hours = 0.5 kWh

30 x 24 hours in a month, so 360 hours x .5 kWh = 180 kWh/month x .13 average kWh charge with taxes About $23 per month.

Not including the electricity to run incubators, etc.
