Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I called the store, and they are holding the last one for me. I can't get it until next week. Logically, I think my husband should just buy it (he works in Bedford, where the coop is). and I can return this coop to our local TSC. He has the car this week because it was raining when he left. Otherwise, it will be another 4 hour trip for a crappy coop.
I will get the other one. I just hope it works out. There is no pop door. The run is 1/2 inch hardware cloth. I am more worried about wind and rain. I can either make a pop door, cover the run with a strong tarp, or return the thing.
Other options for the same price were:
A 10X 10 dog run that I can put a tarp on. Not predator proof, but I see a lot of people are having luck with it.
A garage in a box that has a strong tarp with it. I need to think about how to make this work. It too is big. I think it was 12X12 and 6 high. I was wondering if chain link panels would go on the front? Either that or build another PVC run. That would allow light in, and me to see where everyone is so I don't have escapees.
Spend the $200 on lumber, and figure out the pallet coops.
The whole point was a pre-made coop that I didn't have to build, and couldn't mess up!

Apparently my girls are a bit miffed at being stuck in the brooder all day. The last two days they've enjoyed going outside all afternoon while I work on the coop. But today it was 45 and rainy. Tonight they are being a bit noisy and rambunctious. Thankfully I'll have their home done and them moved in by Sunday.

Oh, Silkie, I would be, but if your friend lives anywhere near you, he's 5+ hours from me. DH won't let me go further than about an hour for chickens. He's a keeper, so I can't have him thinking I've gone too insane!

He's in Cleveland, but we can run a train to get them there. I'll be coming to meet Rey on the 11th or 12th & can pass them to someone along the way to get them to you.

Quote: Barnevelders may not be a breed that can be feather sexed.

Quote: It's the feathers on the wingtips you look at. Between hatch & 72 hours old, you will be able to see a single straight line of feathers all the same length on a male & 2 distinctly different lengths of feathers on a female.

How late is too late for feather sexing? I meant to do mine but I got so busy with school and taking care of our other animals I never got around to it. I would still like to try, though.
About 72 hours, however, feather sexable breeds will also have females who get wing feathers much faster than males so you can compare chicks from the same hatch & the ones with nice long wing feathers will be the pullets & the shorter wings will be little roos.

That may be, but ya know (in my opinion) most of the best music is pre 1990, and your gen got to truly live some of the greatest decades in the last century. Most importantly us whipper snappers need your experience and advice. Plus as someone else said, and my one Aunt swears, you're only 29 with experience. I'm sticking with that until my son hits 29.

Hello, fellow Pennsylvanians!
Hello

Yup, 29 & holding!!!

Quote: There are several breeds that are feather sexable, many heritage breeds. Mixes however, are not unless they are specifically bred to be by crossing a fast feathering roo with a slow feathering hen to produce the opposite in the offspring.

Quote: Yep, loved them growing up.

anyone have chicks available that is somewhat near the pittsburgh area or know if tsc has them still the one in belle vernon doesnt have them anymore
You know I'm always hatching something. Have BCM & OE hatched yesterday & today.

OK.. So what exactly gets you flagged on this site.. I want to rant about something.. I can word it G rated I think.. Well you know what here it goes....And I have no clue why this bothers me.

I was on FB today, reading posts, as I do and I happen upon this image of a woman, that I have as a friend on FB from a local bar I used to visit, not any more I moved away. Well.. She is with this guy that I was seeing about 2+ years ago.. AND GET THIS!! They are married!!!! I am pretty sure he blew her off to hang with me a few times, whatever... Guess I lost to her, and that is all fine with me.. But here comes the part where I bite my tongue and try to word this G rated... I wanted to post under the Married part: Congratulations Hope the marriage last and you don't end up taking it up the *****,
