Hey I know its a little bit late, but the Lebanon Valley Poultry Fanciers meeting is tonight at 7pm at the Lebanon Fairgrounds. You don't have to live in Lebanon County, and its okay if you are late!!! I live in Dauphin County, and I am usually late!!!! LOL, oh and its in the poultry barn, just look for a bunch of cars, on the left side of the grounds!

Do you have Dana Lapes email? The one I got from his 4-h pamphlet didn't work. Thanks! :)

The prints are still there but my guineas have stepped in them. I don't know how to make a plaster cast

would have tried to make one. It's not a raccoon track. Not a hand print. We have a few raccoons and seen their prints. It's scary because it is less than a foot away from my silkie run. Don't think I'm mountain lion proof. Sally I see the face too, ow that you said something

I gotta get the trail cam down there and see what's going on. I really don't want s\to see a lion that close to my chickies

If we get video of it I will see if I can post it.
You can use plaster of paris. Frame around it with either wood, a cut 2 liter bottle, or anything that will fit around it and pour in the mixed plaster of paris (you don't want to mix more than a minute or two before pouring it sets up quickly) and allow it to set up. If you can't frame it just pour into the print and allow to overflow a little

Still no pips in my leghorn eggs. I need these to hatch so I can slip them under my silkies. Today is day 21 :(

So tomorrow is my kids big swim party with all of their friends. I planned on cleaning and cooking all day. I woke up this morning with the room spinning. Everyt time i got up I would fall over. My 9 & 6 year old were a huge help playing and getting things for my little one so I could lay down. Hubby took me to med express and they said inner ear infection. Hoping its gone by morning bc I have sooooo much to do. Keeping it simple now with chips and pizza instead of making all the little treats I had planned. All the bathrooms and main rooms need cleaned (even though I just did it on Monday grrr). Plus sweeping the pool and cleaning the patio. Horrible timing!

I don't have any plaster of paris :( If i had some laying around I probably would have tried to make a cast. Got the trail cam aimed where the prints were. My neighbor said something has been leaving him "gifts" of dead rabbits. I warned him and showed him the prints, he has little kids and I don't want to see them get hurt.

I forget most people don't have it, sorry. I keep it for temp wall patches, crafts (made sidewalk chalk the other day) and incase I ever see an awesome print I want to cast among other things.
Hopefully it doesn't come back, ever though it'd be nice to have proof they're around.

My female guinea went missing the beginning of the week. I know she isn't broody because she just came off the nest. All the eggs were cracked but no babies. :( Yesterday I found some big paw prints around my coops in the mud. I think they are mountain lion tracks. There were no claw marks like a canine would leave, just toe prints. They are around 4 inches by 3 1/2 inches. I took pictures but they are hard to see in the picture and my other guineas were running on them since I was trying to look at the prints.

BG:

I poked around and that looks somewhat close to a bobcat print....you should try googling it....there are some good reference pics using "Bobcat paw identification"....hope this helps..

What a busy last week.

We started cleaning coops but didn't get far. Instead, I hauled 37 birds to auction last Saturday. I hauled 19 two weeks before that. Most of them were cockerels (4 ducks and 7 pullets). I still have more to part with, I just an not sure who.

We cut wood, stacked and sorted wood, worked with the horse, worked on my "FIL's" garage. In general, we started preparing for the season of hibernation.

No one was able to give me much advise on my flock. I was hoping for some kind of insight on what the local market was looking for. So, I decided to ax the Mille Fleur project... I think. I don't know. I love their coloring. That would mean I should ax the chocolate project, but no. I want to work on them.

So, until I decide what I am doing with who...
I have 3 100% English large bantam Chocolate Orp roos from Pampered Poultry (7-9lb "bantams") and 4 75% English Orp hens for a LF choc/mauve project. 2 are blue and 2 are black. They must go. If I have to, I'll freeze the boys and send the girls to auction. I have nearly $400 in to these 7 birds... I need to get rid of some birds though. Asking $200. I have a couple chocolate pullets hatched from their eggs for sale as well ($30 each).

Sooooo ... I have a question. What age do chickens generally start to molt cause I am seeing an awful lot of feathers in the coop. All the girls look ok and I can't see any particular one chicken that looks like it is being picked on
