Dang it. Girl I know just got 3 ducklings from tractor supply. She was not thinking. Thought they'd be able to be set free. Bet I get them. I better start reading up on ducks. Any guesses on what TS means when they say mixed breeds?

Any guesses on breed?![]()
I like the colors of the NH's and they are decent layers - once they finally come into lay. I get impatient when they are taking up coop space, but free ranging I can just enjoy their color without fretting over how unproductive they are, and hopefully they are less "creative" than the mixed breeds in finding places to lay.I'll tell you anywayI set 21 eggs from @chiques chicks . They're so pretty, dark brown eggs along with some green and cream colored. Really excited to see how many hatch and of what.![]()
Good timing on the broody! I love them so much... so sweet seeing mommas and babies. I feel like my bantam cochin is toying with the idea, but will probably go broody in about a month. Hope you have a good hatch with her! NH's are cool lookin'![]()
Rooster processing
I am gonna need to ask that you schedule ahead of time this year...
I have people doing meaties but paying me to process also
these are going to be bigger jobs and not as easy to just squeeze in a few roosters...
also you will need to bring bags or whatever you want them put into..
prices this year are $3 per chicken..others like duck, turkey or goose will be determined upon age and time of year.
I know this is a price increase but I still feel this is a fair price and determined by the fact that I do 5 birds in an hour by myself, which comes out to $15 an hour. seems like a fair price to do what most won't do. which is also why I am asking you to bring your own bags, to keep my cost down.
hopefully without offending anyone,,,, I need to add that you will be dropping them off in a secure cage or crate, please no flimsy cardboard boxes, I hate chasing chickens....you will be coming back for pick up later......I have seen to many bad reactions to the process to have people standing around watching.. and be sure that is what you want to do, they will look different upon pick up.
other critters upon request..pm privately for them please..
looking like it may be a busy summer here....very thankful to have the big shed to work in,,, hubby not so thankful of the space I took from him.
If a rooster is stressing out the hens, yes that can cause a drop in egg production. Any time of stress can cause a drop in egg production.About a month ago I picked up an EE and a Black Star to go with my RIR's and a couple of mixed breed hens. My rooster is a pretty good size guy and he seems fixated on the EE and she wants nothing to do with him. I've noticed that a couple of the RIR seem to feel the same way. They are staying in the rafters where he cannot get a hold of them, when they come down for treats he stalks them like a child molester at a kids playground. So today I booted him out of the coup for the day to give the girls some peace and quiet. I saw several of them head for the boxes to lay their eggs. Is it possible that a rooster can deter egg production? or am I seeing something that is really not a problem?
