Yes, they are fence free. The ducklings go in themselves, usually pretty early. They are only four weeks old. Sometimes they stay out until everyone else goes in, but that is rare. The adult ducks... Sometimes I have to guide them in before I go to bed. They are really liking the warmer weather! I think the nightcrawlers probably have a lot to do with it too.

We had quite an experience with the ducks last night, In our yard we have a 20x10 man made pond that of course the ducks love, they typically go from coop to pond and back again pretty much only straying away if I am out in the yard and they think im going to feed them, or if someone turns on the hose. Anyways, it was raining last night when I went out to do my rounds, the ducks were in the pond, they saw me coming with an umbrella and took off, gone. The little buggers ran off past their coop and into the woods. After assuming it was the umbrella that scared the heck out of them I left them for about half an hour, they still hadn't returned so I had to go out in the pouring rain, umbrella free, and lore them back out with treats. They are such boneheads sometimes.

Hey everyone this is the guinea that hatched at 4 this morning
He/she is sooo cute!
Do you free range fence free during the day? I was nervous about it worried that they would run away or something (I never had chickens before!) My ducks are 10 weeks old now and they free range all day, at night i grab the bag of mealworms and they run into their coop to get their treat, I think I am over thinking everything a little being new at all this.
You probably are over thinking it, I agree with Motorcycle chick,I think getting them used to running for treats is a great strategy.

It is confirmed, we have decided to put our house up for sale in June. And then....

:idunno One. of my girls decides to go broody..... I know usually the answer is to give her some eggs, but we will have to redo everything them in a few weeks. Any suggestions? I guess I'm going to have to break her this time again...

Jojo comes better than the dog. He just doesn't want to be cooped.

Congrats Anne:

Where are you looking to move? There is a Chester Co 4 acre property listed on CL....(barn no house)....

and the answer to 'broody' is 'hatching eggs'....(its a known fact)

KJ:

I have a fence and pretty much any chook that wants out can get out...before I got my first roo, my girls went exploring more than once....I really hope there's no video of me chasing them through the neighborhood with a fishing net...

Ok well I think my 7 week old SLW,Stella, may be a Steve. I don't have a pic right now but her comb and waddles seem to be awful red to me for such a,young bird, or so I have read. I also read the SLW can be very hard to sex at this, age. Any ideas I will try and post a pic later. My girlfriend will be upset of Stella is a Steve as that is her baby.

Ana has her babies out and about this morning! I went out to feed everyone and heard all kinds of peeping in the coop. I opened the Nov side door and there's Ana and all 6 of her babies running around looking for food lol. I didn't have my tablet with me at the time so I didn't get a picture, so far she's being a wonderful mom and defending those little babies from everyone while showing them the food and keeping them warm. One of the little lavenders looks like it's going to be a trouble maker though. It kept running off from the group to do what it wanted and then came back and was running circles around mama, teasing her lol
