Haha! There's just so much to consider. I'm currently contemplating "How many chickens should I get? I certainly don't need a crazy amount of eggs. It's just two of us in the house... But there are so many awesome breeds I want to raise! Can I raise all different breeds together? Should they all be the same breed? Is there an advantage to all one breed?" Lots of open tabs of Backyard Chickens forums currently...

6 hens will average 4 eggs/day. Learn the various ways to freeze or freeze dry for the winter when the eggs aren’t coming. You can also sell eggs, or use to barter with for vegetables and fruits from neighbors.
Get six different kinds of chickens. It’s nice to see a variety of color.

If you have a griddle, make omelettes, or just the shells, separate with parchment paper, and freeze. I love the convenience!

HELLO! Greater Philadelphia here, new to the site, and contemplating raising backyard chickens this Spring!

Welcome from Cambria county! If you're up for a road trip, my brooders are overflowing with babies right now lol. I'd load you up! Lol, @dheltzel is much closer to you though in Pottstown

Oh you can definitely have many different breeds together. I have tiny little Seramas running around with giant English orpingtons, silkies, ameraucanas, and whatever other random flock members there are lol

So my egg box is now leaning on my pine tree it is that windy here. And that egg box is heavy.
