If you haven't found it yet, according to Picture This app, the plant is Halbert-leaf Yellow Violet. Botanical name: Viola Hastata. Will have yellow and purple blooms in April and May. I got the app to identify plants with berries that are safe or not for my chickens.Another pic for identification purposes... and just to keep chickens involved a pic of the crew escorting me on a recent walk.

For anyone who doesn't think these can be a threat to their coop...just check out that mouthful of teeth! I know they don't frequently go after live birds, but they certainly are capable and will given the right circumstances. Any around or in our pens are usually handled pretty quickly by the dogs.No bait, the trap was just near the hole the booger put in the back door of the garage.

I just have dirt. They dug lots of holes, but I only refill the holes near the fence. They love to dust bath in the holes. What is the base of your runs? Ours has been just dirt but the girls have turned into infantry and are digging trenches. I'm thinking of getting pavers for in it and then throwing shavings or bark mulch over them. Bad idea? Good idea? Any other ideas?
