Speaking of D'uccles-- I just had 4 hatch!! My friend is incubating them at her house, we thought we had 3 outta 4 hatch, then her DH found one the next day in the bator that had next weeks hatch and the pheasant eggs!! The little bugger hatched right in the turner

so we actually got 4 outta 4 (so far)!!! We realized we put the wrong 4th egg in lockdown

thank god they are all doing well!! The six set to hatch next week are all looking good too!! We may wind up with 10 D'uccles!!

thinking we would get... maybe 4... so we might be selling some chicks soon!!
 
I recently began reading that my birds need bigger nesting boxes. I see that a lot of you have the same breeds (RIR, Barred Rock, Jersey Giants, etc.). Are your boxes bigger than 12"? Especially for the JG's?
I did see a great idea while searching the site for answers. I have an old dresser that I was going to trash. If I take every other drawer out, it will make great nest boxes. I am still not sure the space will be tall enough, though.

Has anyone else had HUGE issues with their allergies lately? And does anyone know where I can get some good, raw honey in Central PA? The Way Fruit Farm is out of it. :(

Not yet, but I'll be trying to get some today! :D I need to take pics of the chicks and f my pullets from this year! The black and splash I'm liking alot this year...the blue pullet that hatched, not so much. I'm sure she'll change a bit, but so far, I'm not impressed.

Well, it would be hard to put him in jail.....

And I have to disagree with one point you made (not trying to be argumentative, this is a very close subject to us). A lot of people did not turn the other cheek. Select individuals did. I am so torn about how I feel about Paterno at this point. He did so much good for Penn State. But he also has been proven to have done some very bad.

So torn.....

My thoughts and prayers are with ALL of the families victimized by this tragedy.

I realize that we have very different opinions on this and do understand your position. I have written and deleted several responses to your post, but I cannot respond without coming across as combative.

I just wanted to give a view point of an outsider on this issue. I'm glad I did not go to PSU as I would be very, very disgruntled about the entire handling of this situation. With that, I'm going to step out as I realize this is a "political" thing and did not mean to incite anger/frustration/uproar to a very calm and peaceful thread.

Back to chickens.

I tried incubating this month. I set 28 eggs from two sources. At lockdown I had 10. Didn't really see any movement, but had 5 hatch. They were all Swedish Flower Hens.

I know that isn't a great hatch rate, but it's better than zero. I will try again (actually I have 10 eggs in a different incubator that go on lockdown tomorrow.)

I hope I can find another source for SFH eggs so mine aren't too closely related.
