need some advice from all you marans breeders,,,thinking of ordering some eggs from Muddy Hoof Farms in particular the golden cuckoo marans, would you mind taking a look at the birds on their websitehttp://muddyhooffarm.vpweb.com/Hatching-Eggs.html
I am not real familiar with the breed to know what to look for. but they sure are beauty's.

May a not-yet-Marans-breeder give an opinion?
They are beautiful! I did a little looking around. I am intrigued by the beauty of the males, and the way their tail colors can vary. It may have been a cockerel instead of a rooster I saw the different tail on. I am also curious as to why the breed would not breed true. Someone on BYC has a thread for theirs.
I think you should get some. I think I will look into them too.

see thats sarcasim

ok, get this Chad, a skid is what 48" in general? the width vary but one side is typically 48"

soooooo
you make a base of 6 or even 8 pallets (go big or go home in the chicken world right?) with 14 or 16 FREE concrete block underneith (just seen a bunch free on CL) Just trim the base up so you can FIT 3 or 4 thin cheap ply to fit on EXACTLY, thats important for COST and NO WASTE! (NOTE" can use 1/4" thin ply if u got pretty strong skid boards)

Then u use skids as separators & for Structure, place them centered on every skid width of floor, therefor you have 6 separate BREEDING pens and you make your 6 or 8 individual access doors for feeding and cleanout in the front like mine, then out the back you have your CLOSABLE run holes into your 48" high fencing BULK at TSC and top it with the 48" fencing as well, just like that makeshift cage you showed me in your truck from I think heather?? And create an AS NEEDED access door like on that cage as well. But you will need to come up with a creative way to close up at night, would be cool to be able to rig something from the inside
