I went to my regular feed store this morning (mom and pop) and of course had to pop my head into the chick bins. They are awesome at knowing the breeds and keeping everyone separated. Well anyway I notice a turkey poult in with the bantams and she said they shipped her one with a bad leg - I said ok, looks like a slipped tendon - so she tells me if I want to try and do something with him I can have him. Ok, I don't have anything to loose in trying. He looked healthy otherwise.
So I am checking out with my feed order and some other chicks I picked out (blue and splash LF cochins and some frizzle bantams). Then the guy who puts the feed in you truck comes and she tells him I am taking the turkey so he says hold on I have a New Hampshire pullet that came in that isn't doing well. He had her in the back and was giving her sips of water every few minutes to help her. This was a big guy and he was just cradling this little chick. Gotta love it.... So I took her to.
Thanks to his care I actually think she's going to make it. Not so sure about the turkey because he's a Broad Breasted Red and don't know if having leg issues already is going to lead to an early demise. I will be happy to keep him as long as his legs will hold out, but if not maybe he will make it to process weight....
Just thought I would add this so you know that there are some good ones out there that really do care about the stock that they are in charge of....
Sorry again about the loss of your little ones.
