people with house chickens

How old is Chick Pea? in my opinion, it doesn't matter about the breed. i had a few GREAT pet chickens when i was teen ranging from Polish, RIR, BO, and BR.
iluvchks - the testing WAS kinda expensive....25 bucks. but i figured it was worth it. and i still had her egg, cuz....well, what can i say? i'm a chicken mom. i was gonna keep it forever....but then i got the great idea of sending it in to get Sweet Pea tested. i'm glad i kept it now. of course, there's no getting it back now. but i'll live...i suppose! lol! and yes, a chicken scrap book is a wonderful idea! hey! better yet, why not get a baby book and fill it in! actually, that probably wouldn't work....they have places in there with HUMAN milestones (boring) ha ha! no, a scrapbook is a great idea!!!

I think she's about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. I picked her up on a Friday, but I'm pretty sure the hatch had happened earlier in the week. Though I wasn't informed of the day. I didn't know chickens grow so fast! My little baby is growing up

Soon she'll laying eggs like an old pro.

Chick Pea is about the same age as my 4 "outside" girls. and YES!!! they DO grow fast! it's amazing!! and i bet Chick Pea will be a GREAT egg layer seein' as she's a leghorn! and huge eggs too! they're fun arn't they? best birds in the world in my opinion. of course if i lived in the country, i'd have ducks, and definitely an emu! i just put Sweet Pea to bed, she watched a whole movie with me, even as i ate my snack cuz i didn't want to leave her alone in her box. i just now put her to bed. she's peeping.....but she'll settle down. she's a good lil' gal (i hope!). she had fun with her 4 friends today and even watched them as they ate a tomato, but she turned her beak up at the treat. she's so tiny i have to feed her a baby bird powder that i bought at petsmart.

If I lived elsewhere I'd like to get a duck, too. They're just so stinkin' cute! When I was younger I lived out in the suberbs of Reno. Some people about a mile from us had an emu farm and everyonce in a while one would get loose, and you'd see it in the neighborhood. I thought it was hilarious. SweetPea sounds like a cutie, glad she got to have fun out with other girls today. I'm fixing up a rabbit hutch, so I can get one for husband before he comes home in five weeks, so I'm hoping Chickpea will get along with it and they won't fight eachother. When I woke up this morning Chickpea had wondered out of the closet sometime during the night and she sleeping right next to pillow

I thought it was so cute, but she can't make a habit of it because I'm not a fan of poop on my bed

She's taken over the bottom shelf of one of the book shelves in the living room so I'm trying to turn her on to the idea of staying downstairs by herself all night.

Hasn't happened yet.. Every time I turn the lights out the peeping starts

Is it okay to have her sleep in a diaper? I'd let her on the bed if that's what she wants, as long as I don't have to fear waking up and having a runny poo on my blanket

So... My first attempt at the diaper was a catasrophy.. I thought I had measured her right, or maybe I just just make it right, who knows. But I sometimes feal like a could be on a reality tv show sometimes, I feel like occasionally I am that amusing. I really wish someone has been here to tape it.. She kept peeping at me in terror, like i was going to stick her in the pot! I tried setting her down on the kitchen counter and every time I had one foot down, she'd somehow run up my arm. I made it out of a t-shirt so I kept trying to quickly just cut and modify, nope. I'm hoping that she'll at least be too upset with me to go upstairs. Fat chance. Well, I'd ordered an avian flight suit off the internet last week, but i'm not sure if i want to keep trying and just return it, or go ahead and open it, who knows, maybe it'll be chickpea's glass slipper

the only thing is if it doesn't fit i can't open it if it's been opened. I found a bird quite similar to her size and ordered that one so I think i'll just go ahead and try it out. it can't hurt. and after tonights adventure I'm desperate. I just wanted something by the weekend, I'm having my wisdom teeth out and don't want to have to chase down the poo's with a gross face..

an avian flight suit. i've heard of those, haven't looked into them though. let me know how that goes. i want to try a variety. i really want the fleece or t-shirt diapers to work. that way we can pick our own fabric and it's probably cheaper....ha ha...get it? CHEAPer??? cheep cheep, peep peep....ok....i'm getting weird now. today Sweet Pea had a traumatic moment!!! i about freaked!!
ep.gif
i was getting her outta her box (i was standing up) and she just kept scrambling and scrambling and i couldn't get her...she scrambled outta my hands and FELL about 5' to the floor!!! my POOR BABY!!! she's only 9 days old! she landed on her side and looked a bit confused, but she was fine. i was expecting her to be stunned, like the birds outside do if they fly into your window. but thank goodness she's ok!!! i gave her EXTRA love and told her how sorry i was and that it was mom-chickens fault etc etc. i don't know WHY she scrambles sometimes.....the lil' booger LOVES to be held...i don't get it. but she's sleeping on my lap now...soon we'll go outside for fun with LF friends. something kinda funny happened a couple days ago with Cricket (my Silver Cuckoo Marans). she was on my shoulder.....REALLY close to my head of course....and i turned my head to look at her, but she was SO close i couldn't see her very well and i said to myself "is that her BUTT or her FACE?" and then ka-BAM! she pecked me in the eye! it wasn't too funny then, but when i think back on it...it's hilarious!

i didn't get mad at her. how could i? chickens just like to peck at shiny things....one of those would be human eye-balls! chickens are always such a wonderful source of entertainment. much more fun than tv!

Sit back with a bowl of popcorn and watch the chicken channel. There is never reruns and always is exciting. Sometimes drama, sometimes comedy, sometime romance;)
