people with house chickens

Her name was Gooey, I'd like to keep it since it is what her kids named her, we'll just see if it sticks

Ducks like chickens are flock birds. You KNOW you can't have just one!!

She'll be less needy and chat it up if she has a friend to waddle around with.

Is she a mixed breed - never saw that beautiful speckling on a domestic duck before.

The people I got her from got her at Atwood's, which is a corporate feed store here.(I assume it's pure unless they get ducks from farmers and not a hatchery.

I have Anconas (two) that are about a month younger. She is much quieter today. The Anconas are very quiet, if she's going to be loud like that, she's going to have to spend the night and mornings inside, lol.

She's just calling for some friends LOL!!! She looks like the Swedish Blue in the other post. It's nice you have some other ducks around for her to socialize with. Ducks, except for Muscovy, all seem to be chatty types.

I have some muscovies too, hoping they'll rub off 9th the quackery and make them a bit more quiet lol.
My husband said he likes her quacks and he doesn't find her annoying at all...He didn't witness when I first brought her home. Poor girl was inconsolable until I picked her up and held her in my lap. She's a sweet thing, jumps up for you to pick her up. She had 5 kids to keep her company, so it's no surprise she knows quacking will get her picked up lol.

She quaked a little this morning but I think she was just startled being in a new home with a new routine to get used to.

Funny you mentioned that as I was thinking the same thing - she has a new routine to get accustomed to. Flock birds are very routine oriented.

Here's a video of Pepper getting pet!

She had a trip to the vet recently when I was worried she might have sour crop, but I was just worrying too much. She was just drinking lots of water! She was given a clean bill of health, along with lots of compliments. The vet said she's one of the best behaved chickens he's gotten to see. No complaints about her health or care routine! It was worth the trip, it's better that she's not sick and I worry about doing right by her a lot. It's nice to have a poultry health professional tell me my chicken isn't about to explode at any moment.
