I bolded (Is that even a word?) the above text because Sparkle just went broody again in the dog bed under the TV table. I blame E-surance for this.I have the TV set on now, and my two House Chickens have settled down for the evening on the audio bar (although they are on the recliner with me in the following photo). An E-surance commercial just aired, the one using chicks cheeping to reflect "cheap" rates. Sparkle Silkie, the Broody Queen (not currently broody OR raising chicks woke right up and chirrupped in response to the cheeping. Both she and Punkin looked around for chicks. They're still slightly alert.![]()

@MsChickenMomma shavings are the best! I used to love to snuggle and smell my chickens feathers when I put cedar chips in their cages because it made them smell soo good. But then I found out cedar chips are toxic to chickens, so now I use pine shaving.![]()
I love the smell of cedar like nothing else! It's definitely one of my favorite smells. But I really do love the smell of fresh cut pine, the kind of smell you get when you saw a pine tree down. And then if you add some citrus scent to that... oh!I love opening fresh bails of shavings just to smell them. The smell of pine shavings is probably one of my top 3 favorite smells.I didn't know about the Cedar shavings being toxic until about 6 months ago. When I found out I was frantic and ran out to check the shavings bag. Thankfully the stuff I have always been using is Pine.![]()
