Wow! 6'9 is some serious height! Hope he is doing well today!

There is some activity starting in his brain to indicate a pending seizure. Likely enough, he'll wait until the only nurses on staff are the tiny little women on weekends. They removed some more medicine tonight to wean him off some more hoping to get the info they need. At least the activity is where the doctors thought that it would be so everything is right on schedule. The trick is to make sure he doesn't pull the wires out of his brain during the seizures.

At least with my husband in the hospital, my hens are able to get ahead of his eating habits since my hubby eats four eggs a day. Winter laying can't always keep up with the demand. Now I can get a few eggs to have on hand for the rest of the family, too.

Day six of momma hen, I let the other hens see her briefly by opening up the coop just to ensure she doesn't lose her place in the flock. Everything still doing well with her, too.

The brain is so delicate and intricate. I hope things shape up for him. We have a vessel weakness in our family. Basically , brain aneurysm in the 50's. So, I have spent way too much time in the hospital in my life with my Grandpa, mom and uncle.

Are things going okay for you and how's your husband recovering??? Any news on your broody silkie?

Husband had his surgery today. Less than 100 people in the country have had this surgery and he is number 28 in this hospital. The doctors said that everything went absolutely perfectly. Hubby is waiting for a bed extender so he can go to sleep and he should go home tomorrow. He looks real beat up where the wires and bolts have been in his head but he'll heal.

As for the broody, I left her on the nest yesterday when I came to the hospital and I haven't been home since. I've been pulling the night shift with my husband and didn't go home today since the surgery was at about lunch and home is an hour away from the hospital so it would have been tight to go home, change and come right back for the surgery. I'll go home to check the broody before heading to my doctor to see if my pneumonia has returned. Always something.

Well, It sounds like your plate is so full right now. I hope you have some help with all of this. I am so pleased that the surgery and recovery is progressing well. Take care of yourself and try and get your rest and vitamins.

Even though I kept my silkie in the main coop for the last two weeks, I finally decided to go ahead and move her like I originally planned to make it easier for the chicks to transition and I was so surprised to find that she had not six but ten eggs under her!!! I've been sitting out and opening the door to the coop so that the other hens could go in and see her (so they wouldn't forget her) when I could and I never heard an egg song. I have no idea how far along those chicks could be. Guess I'll have to get the incubator out and take over after the rest of the chicks are hatched and hope that I can slip any hatched chicks under her while she sleeps.

Thirteen days down. Gearing up for the final week.

Those silkie are persistent.

My silkie has been trying to go broody for the last 2 weeks. Every night when it was too dark for her to find her way back to the nest box, I would take her out of the nesting box and place her on the roosting bar. Well after doing this routine for 2 weeks, it finally broke..... me. I gave her some eggs to hatch. Now I won't have to go through that routine for a while.

Moving the silkie was a bad idea. My dog, even outside of the pen, irritated the snot out of her since he knew that she was isolated from the rest. Dumb dog, locked out of the pen through three layers of wires, still barking at her every time I went to check on her. Kept her so upset I ended up moving her back to her original nest. I might try moving her again after the chicks are born. Until then, she is back on her TEN eggs in the main coop with the doors shut to keep everyone else out.

As for my husband and all; so far, no more seizures. It will be interesting to see if his more dangerous seizures are gone now after his surgery. I can handle grand mals with no problem. I can't handle him opening the car doors up at 65 miles per an hour going down the interstate or him jumping across the basement stairs.

My pneumonia is still going strong but at least I'm off for another week from work so I have time to recover a bit.

LPeaslee, keep us up to date on your silkie. It is so hard to not give in after a while when you know they really want to have some babies.
