Perspective about coronavirus

Yes we all should be careful and follow sanitary guidelines..... but before you panic too much here is a little perspective to hopefully calm some nerves.
Year to date Chicago violence has killed more people than coronavirus has in our entire country.
In 2017 there were 47,000 opioid overdoses, including legal and illegal.
Average 88,000 people die from alcahol related causes every year.
The flu kills 12,000-60,000 every year.
Our entire country is shut down because of less than 100 people. Of course every life lost is a tragedy but we should focus on saving our loved ones from all of these dangers.
Take a deep breath and enjoy a slower pace for a bit. And if you're out of toilet paper you probably have a closet full of stuff that doesn't fit or you dont like. I already picked mine out.

To add to that:
From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

and
38,800 lives lost to car crashes in the US last year.

I highly recommend everyone watch this video of the Will Smith family discussing the Covid-19 virus. Everything you need to know, and if you have questions you can't find answers to, you should hear the answers here.
My biggest question these past few days has been what it feels like to be sick with this new virus. It's answered here.

Less than 100 deaths now, but over 5,000 people infected, and more being reported everyday. Estimates show that, if we did nothing to stop the spread of this virus, those 100 deaths would be 2.2 million. That's a lot more than flu ever did. If we only did partial measures, we'd still have over a million deaths.

So far, there is no rhyme or reason to who gets mild symptoms and who dies, and we don't have 2 million respirators on hand.

Yes, thank you for the perspective, but you should still be very concerned. Stay home as much as you can and wash your hands often.

and the reduction in air pollution is preventing a lot of deaths, especially of people with respiratory conditions, https://www.climatechangenews.com/2...economic-slowdown-curbs-deadly-air-pollution/
Lol. We just need to get coal and nuclear into Africa now so people there will stop d

Actually I just heard more like 265 deaths so nationwide coronavirus has killed about as many people as Chicago.
The whole world would be in better shape if China didn't cover it up and lie to the world endangering everyone.
Men are actually more susceptible than women. Also much more deadly to those with 2 underlying conditions. Death sentence for someone with 3 underlying conditions. Over 60, immuno compromised, respiratory conditions, diabetic, or heart disease all increases risk dramatically. The real killer is those of us with it that aren't sick at all spreading it to those in danger.
There has only been 1 death under 18yo.
Yes we should all be careful absolutely. I certainly hope it doesn't seem like I'm trying to minimize this virus. Yes we need to take preventative measures, but Chicago is still more deadly and nobody report on that.

the 1918 flu epidemic is estimated to have killed at least 20 million people. https://virus.stanford.edu/uda/

It's exactly this type of misinformation that causes undue paranoia. I hope you don't continue to spread this lie. Note- bold print areas are complete nonsense.

As to the other misinformation of "no rhyme or reason to who gets mild symptoms and who dies" there is absolutely common sense and fact based evidence who dies. It's just like a flu. The old, the people with weakened immune systems and the immobile people are the ones that die.
