Pest control and chickens

Game chickens? Do they play chess? Just a little levity
What are considered game hens? Or I can just research

Games were historically used for fighting, but nowadays they're still used for free-ranging purposes. Any landrace or game breed that camouflages with your local environment should make good pest control

Yes, they love them. Challenge; only have 6 hens and only out 4 - 5 hours a day as I don't have a fence around most of my yard (1 acre with half in barb wire. Don't really want them wandering too far.
Also have some hawks.
With what seems as hundreds of grasshoppers, don't see how they can get them under control

The solution to the problem is right here!! You just need MORE CHICKENS!!!!

Yup, that's def a grasshopper, not a locust. Thanks for the pic. @WannaBeHillBilly has a tale to tell about their ducks going nuts eating grasshoppers a couple years ago! Apparently they are irresistably delicious, at least to ducks. Hey, Wannabe, can you link your grasshopper tale here? I will never forget that story ...
