Pet names (not animals)

I live in the South. Everyone has a pet name.
I would kill to know my DH's nickname! I've asked his DDs multiple times but they are too afraid to tell me and his aunt is old and can't remember it.

In the South it is normal to go into a restaurant and have the waitress call your DH honey or sweetie when she takes his order?

Or would he say something to her like, hey honey, could we get two more sodas (or whatever)?

yes I call my DH Darling always..... it has extended to family and friends, and work colleagues saying "and how is Darling".....we all know what they are talking about................then again he is such a darling.............. but I also call my son "darling"...trouble is when I shout darling!... they both answer me now..............

only person i call by pet names would be my Girlfriend, The rest can go jump in a lake

(not intended to be mean) mainly because i would feel awkward calling another girl by a pet name, She (girlfriend) would probably kill me, and i guess it's just something i have "just for her". And im not that into giving people nicknames since most of the people i talk to are older than i am, So they're just MR, Mrs, Miss, etc.. only one person i know has a nickname i gave him but i can't say it on here.. the reason we (Girlfriend, i, other friends) Call him it is due to it matches his personality.

Yep, completely normal.

In my ex husbands family every single member had nicknames. Possum, rat, weasel. Mine was snakewoman and my daughter was of course snakegirl. The nicknames were given to you by the patriach of the family and everyone used them.

Thats mostly what I was getting at. I am wondering if its something that makes others feel uncomfortable. Would your spouse or SO be upset if you called someone of the opposite sex a pet name, would it bother them if you did it?

Or is it just something almost everyone does nowadays?
