Pet names (not animals)

I reckon everyone here just does it without thinking about it.
I call my boyfriend "baby", and he does it right back. Sometimes he'll call me "darlin". But those are "ours", kind of reserved for the SO.

Now, he doesn't really call anyone else petnames, but I, on the other hand, do. "Dollface", "love", or "lovey" will usually conclude my sentence when I'm talking to you. I will call you "sweetheart", but watch out when I do that. It's usually out of sarcasm, anger, disgust, or all of the above.

Out here we call each other "dude" alot (either gender).

When I was a Dept head at 23 (youngest in the company) I could NOT break a manager from SC from calling me "Young lady", he couldn't seem to grasp that in CA it means "you're in trouble and stop acting like a brat", we're the same age, and he didn't feel "ma'am" was for women under 30.

Mr Saddi is "love" and I'm "love", other people are honey, sugar etc, but only each other is "love". Mr Saddi #2 called me "sweetie" once, same endearment he used for his ex-wife.... I corrected that darn fast.

Sun, it ticks me off pretty badly when someone my own age (under 50) calls me "honey", or "hon" or "dear". I can take it from old folk, but from people my own age, it's just insulting and condescending.

I never do that to anybody else. Except I do call my girlfriends "Dollface"...

well i NEVER!....have heard you call me "dollface."

I got told I was a "peach" yesterday, that was a first. (Normally the -ch names I get called are not forum friendly.

BF is Puppy. Not really sure how I came up with it but it works for him. I haven't been christened with one yet though when he texts me on ocassion I'm 'Kiddo', 'Shawty' or 'Woman-Child'.

My DH doesn't and neither do I.

We do have pet names for each other though...He calls me BlueEyes and I call him Handsome.

My husband does not call others any pet names (and I probably wouldn't care for it if he did), but I've known a lot of men who do use them as terms other than 'hey you'. Boo, Honey, Sweetie, Darlin', etc, with no endearment intended. I think it definitely has to do with our area (deep south).
