Pet names (not animals)

my hubby and i have know each other since kindergarten. he as always called everyone babe it doesn't matter what gender. i also live in the south and my little redneck son, calls everyone "cuz". i guess he picked it up from the men around here because they all say it. anyway it doesn't bother me that hubby calls everyone babe i guess because i'm use to hearing it.

My boyfriend calls his 5 year old neice sweetheart... but that's about it...

I know what you're saying though, I hate being called babe or hun or sweetie by guys I don't know... creepy... If your husband is doing it, tell him to knock it off!

My DH started doing it when it became 'the thing' to do. He doesn't usually do it when I am with him...like at restaurants. But I will hear him answer his phone at work or his cell and he will say something like Hey honey, how are you today...or something similar.

I guess deep down it bugs me some, but I'm not sure if its something I should let bother me. I have let it go for a few years now, but I guess it irks me a little cause it takes away the specialness of what he might call me. I'm not one for overreacting to the small stuff...so I don't want to make waves for something unimportant.

ETA: He is also the people person of his business and I think how he talks to women is what keeps a lot of them coming back. I guess because he makes it feel more personal, than just a business deal.

I don't worry about my DH calling other women hunny, babe or whatever. Now if he called them his special nickname for me...sugar britches

I might have a problem.

Sugar Britches lol cute!

DH usually calls me Sunshine and I haven't heard him call anyone else that yet, so I haven't had to yell at him.

I should add that I dislike when some guy or girl calls me honey, sweetie or baby on the phone or out in public. My first thought is always, I am not your honey, sweetie or baby and for all you know I could be a real Witch (not that I am though). It just does not make me feel more at home, relaxed or like them more because they called me some pet name.

Oh I just remembered my DH's new nickname for me (since the wedding). He now calls me Widder (widow). He says it was his grandpa's nickname for his grandma. Despite the ominious overtones I like it. He tells me I am very much like his grandma Becky and his deceased brother Jimmy (aka Pickles). I never got to meet his family, so it gives me a connection to them in a way that pleases me.

SunAngel, the area you live in is rife with "honey" and other endearments that are simply a way of speech. I'm not too fond of it myself from strangers, but at least they're not calling me other less flattering terms

I try never to use the terms myself, but occasionally have to let it slip when I'm talking to one of my child's friends (girls) who may be having a tween moment. If your hubby lets YOUR personal nickname out in reference to someone else, I'd probably have a chat.... (ominous music here)

My bf calls me baby, babycakes, and sugar-honey muffin. No real official nicname yet for me though. I know he has a playful nicname for me, but I cant remember it at the moment.
For him....I call him babykins, Coleykins, lovermuffin and a playful nicname that he dosnt like too much... Donuts-and-a**. I thought it was hilarious because he was describing the way a room smelled. So from then on, thats what I call him if I feel like being playful. lol
