Here are some of our hand reared Java finches - they are very sweet. Their mother likes to sit, but doesn't like to raise them. She's squashed a few, nipped toes off some, but there's been stressors at those times (a mouse getting into the aviary, a huge big thuderstorm which is very unusual for us) so I have to give her the benefit of the doubt! Frustrating though!

These two are 19 days old and getting very cute:

And Stumpy who chases all the others away from us. It's a miracle he survived - he was almost white from blood loss when I brought him inside as he has very few toes. He's full of spunk though:

He can be nippy at times but most of the time he is sweet he says several words. Through the years he has plucked himself so much his feathers don't grow back all the way.
