Petty neighbors

Decatur's Ordiances are here

of importance to you:
General Provisions

Public Nuisance (this is the way most neighborly complaints are brought)
(5)

Makes or causes frequent or long-continued noise which disturbs the comfort or repose of any person in the vicinity; and/or

Note that chicken keeping is permitted in certain zoning as a "Market Garden, Medium" or "Market Garden, Large". Both, definitionally, exclude the keeping of roosters -

Market garden, medium. A parcel greater than or equal to 5,000 square feet but no greater than two acres that is managed and maintained by an individual, group of individuals or organization for urban agriculture. Animals used in food production shall be permitted with the exception of roosters. Animal facilities shall be setback a minimum of 75 feet from the property lines.

Market garden, large. An area of land greater than two acres that is managed and maintained by an individual, group of individuals or organization for urban agriculture. Animals used in food production shall be permitted with the exception of roosters. Animal facilities shall be setback a minimum of 75 feet from the property lines.

No Livestock is permitted in a "Market Garden, Small". (under 5,000 sq ft)

Your allowed use table is here, and depends upon your parcel's specific ZONING

@nuthatched and @Battlepants do good work, if incomplete. Zoning must be read as a body, not individual sections in isolation.

and I neeed to work on manually inserting [Q U O T E] and [/Q U O T E]

My formatting sucks, sorry.
Did op say how big of a plot they have? I didn't see. I honestly didn't know what market Square or market garden meant so I didn't know how to apply it.

I'm not sure if I would call this a reliable source (.com rather than .gov site), so take this with a grain of salt.

"In the city of Decatur, regulations state backyard chickens are allowed with the following regulations:
...
no roosters are allowed;"

Are you absolutely sure that you are allowed to have a rooster here?
I’m guessing the article read must have been older because at some point roosters were allowed in Decatur Georgia. Lots of neighbors here still have city roos as well.

Knowledge is king. Find out what your local ordinances are pertaining to poultry. Get a printout and have it in hand and understand your rights. Petty neighbors or not, I know lots of people don't want to live in neighborhoods where there is livestock that may affect their chosen lifestyle. I live out in the country, so no issues where I live. Good luck.

Depends. Some things are - many things aren't. Having to give up most of an hour, each way, to drive into "civilization" to pick things up you can't get off Amazon is a cost you have to figure. If you are building, you pay extra for everything due to it being remote - and you have fewer choices to boot. But yes, taxes tend to be lower. Services too.
