The Canon Powershots are what I used for years before I got the cameras I use now. You probably have a newer generation than what I was always using, so any information I'm giving is with me using an older Powershot.

Note #2: I took screenshots of them because I can’t download… they said the file type was unsupported. Working on that!
Is this when you're trying to upload them onto your computer or when you're trying to upload them onto BYC? If it's onto your computer, how are you doing it? (Through cord, plugging SD card into the laptop, or through and SD card adapter?) If onto BYC, how did you save the files when you imported them? Or did they pull up onto your media player?
Note #3: it’s super hard to get good lighting at the rink cause of the white ice and background. How can I help with fixing this?
You should be able to adjust your lighting on at least M (Manual). While on M and the screen to take a picture on, push the Func. Set button. It should pull up this small menu where you can change the exposure (+/- (Exp.) ). Go to the left to make it darker and right to make it brighter.

(A side tip: While on the Func. Set button, go to the bottom setting and ensure your image size is on L. If it's anything smaller than that, the image will be too small for BYC contests. ;) )

Some tips on the pictures:

With the Powershots, you want to be as close to the object as possible. The image quality quickly goes down the moment you zoom in, so you want to avoid that as much as possible.

Still objects work better with that camera than moving ones. You want to use the Kids&Pets (called Sports on some cameras) setting for the sports as it's better for moving objects. You can change the exposure on that setting as well.

The flash always helps the pictures come out clearer, but I highly recommend not using it but finding a natural flash instead. The camera’s flash always gives an unnatural look (and you can usually tell in a picture if one has been used) and when you're working around animals, it's not good for their eyes (it also can give the unwanted "red eye" effect in your pictures too).

Okay! Mine is like 10-15 years old :)

Computer. It is SD card that I plug into a transmitter, then computer. Its says there is a removable media device, then it says that I can't save them.

Okay! That sounds great!

Perfectttt!

Okay! I have to zoom in for hockey, but not really with the other stuff.

Great idea! Mine says kids and pets : )

Okay! Is is there anything I can do to help them come out clear and with no flash?

Thank you so much for the tips!

Could you post a picture of yours? It might be the same generation as mine. (I don't know what year mine came out.)

Is your computer set up where you can plug the SD card directly into the laptop? (For a first time uploading, I usually like uploading a memory card that has very little stuff on it as I've had laptops format the unknown data before.) If you can't, can you use the camera’s cord (if it has one. If not, perhaps buy one?)? The transmitter might be the problem and everything is going to your media player.

Also, have you changed any settings on your laptop when it comes to uploading images? Sometimes that can be the problem.

I prefer to use the sun as a natural flash. The only problem with using the sun, is it can make your pictures too bright (especially roosters' combs) which can still ruin your photo. (Having the camera’s lightening on a darker setting can help with that.) If you're doing still photography, a solid white background helps a lot.
Thank you so much for the tips!
You're welcome!

No, i have a transmitor. You plug in the card to one end and then a USB is on the other side. IDK what its really called lol!

It should be set to that maybe? I have uploaded before.

You should be able to go into file explorer and copy the photos off.

Then from there, select the photo, copy it (CTRL+C) and then head to BYC and paste it in the text field (CTRL+V).

Ok, that is similar, but it's what I usually refer to as a newer model. (I just realized there's different numbers on them.)

Mine's a A560. Here's a couple that I have (I might have another or two. I get everyone these as a first camera then they give them back when they're done using them.)

I think you're talking about an adapter? Using the camera’s cord will probably work better. It might be the adapter why it's not working.
