picky chickens

Why are my chickens such picky eaters? they have no problem eating their chicken crumble but they wont try anything new. they like mealworms and seeds but wont try people food, have tried lettuce, watermelon, corn on the cob, etc they are afraid of different looking food. just end up taking it out of the pen (doesnt matter where I put it) I have three hens, they are still a bit young about six or seven months, bought as young pullets. Will they be more adventurous as they mature.

Try frozen corn or fresh on the cob. They will learn to love all treats but they are skeptical at first when they haven't been raised on it

Hello, and welcome to BYC! I agree, they have to learn that the new stuff that you are trying to give them is something to eat, and not something that is going to try to eat them instead!

Feeding them just their complete feed is better for them.

Use a dedicated bowl for treats. When my ladies see something thrown in the bowl they come running!
