PICS!! Marans, Wyandottes, Light Sussex, Ameraucana, Welsummer Blog!!

I'm still trying to decide if I want two. If I do I'd like a Sussex or Wyandott. I'm glad to hear you won't have trouble finding homes for them all, 'cause that's a lot of chickens!

The chicks are starting to feather out some. I can't wait for them to get a lot of feathers.

Chics in the sun,

I'm sure I will have extra of those two types. The Sussex are sure big chucky chicks. They are really neat birds.

I am trying to upload some of my pics for you to see Derrick - - - but I am running into technical difficulties. They are on the camera and computer - - they just won't upload.

The upload procedure ends with must be a jpeg and they are jpeg's. I resized them to - - making sure they weren't too big before I tried to upload them

I'm having a hard time deciding which I would want. The BLR Wyandotte are just so purdy.......
Can you tell yet if the first batch of Marans look like roos or hens yet? Do they like the new coop? I was worried about mine in the storm last night, but they seem fine.

matn ace,

I don't know what to say. I would love to see pics of your birds....

chics in the sun,

I can't tell what they are yet. They were not Wheatons. I like the fact that you can tell a Wheatons sex early..... They do like the new coop. It is 90% done. I don't have any perches in is yet. I don't have any nest boxes in it. I need to move it a few feet in two directions and then add the construction sand to the bottom.

I just screwed the roof onto the coop yesterday afternoon. Just in time!!! The storm rolled in and it poured down like crazy with high winds and hale... I have not had a chance to go out there and see how they did. I'm sure they were fine. It was dark by the time the storms passed and I left for work before it is light outside.

Make sure the file names do not have a space .... ex: a name like Stew The Rooster .jpg should be StewTheRooster.jpg

and no symbols in the name.

The Sussex just look ENORMOUS in one of the picures on here. Are they really that much bigger than an average chicken? I'm still leaning toward a BLRW just because of the coloring, and they sound like sweet birds.
I've still got to build my nesting boxes, too, but I figure they don't need them for a while and I am off all summer. Plenty of time. I should also add another roost perch if I put a total of five birds in there.

Sussex are large, but in the case of my birds.... Their feathers are not tight to their body. They are loose and fluffy.... making them look a lot larger. Weight wise, they feel like a standard chicken.

Math ace,

Those are nice looking birds.

One of them looks like a hen but then I really am not good at sexing them.

chics in the sun,

The Light Sussex chicks that I have are bigger then all the others in the brooder. They are the ones to come running to my hand instead of running away when I change the paper and put the feeder and water in the brooder. Some of the others do as well but not as much as the Sussex. I would say the few Light Sussex chicks I have are about 25%-30% bigger then the other chicks at this point. They are only 1.5 weeks old now. I have never had grown Light Sussex before so I can't tell you how big they get. Peachick has them so I would go with what she stated. I know that the pictures of the Light Sussex I have seen do look huge compared to the other chicks but that could be feathers for all I know.
