Hi guys. Yes I have eggs and chicks from the Exchequers... in fact my last eggbid auction the person still hasn't paid me. sigh. I might be incubating these eggs myself.

Anyway, the birds are great looking... although rather flighty in temperament. The hens are awesome layers... in the summertime i swear they lay twice a day!!

Derrick, you gonna love those wheaten chicks!!

First of all, your son is way too cute!


Secondly, congrats on the excellent hatch! I'm currently debating about whether or not I should venture down that particular road myself. Who knew I'd be THIS into chickens??

Thirdly, I might want a couple of your "excess" birds.

Peachick does have some awesome eggs. The one's in the photo that are her's are the Wheaton Ameracaunas. The rest are from other breeders. I'm tempted to take her up on the offer for that other breed but..... I have a lot of chicks to deal with now. It will be hard to get rid of the others but I really have no choice and will be only able to keep about 9 total hens.

My son is having a ball. Thanks for all the compliments. He is a joy. He loves to handle the chicks and it is great to see how gentle he is with them. I love to watch him interact with the birds. The only thing is trying to teach him to wash his hands after messing with them. He also likes to rub the soft chicks on his face and kiss them. I am trying to stop him from doing that. His mother would kill me if she saw him do that....

For anybody who is also interested in any of these chicks, sign up for this thread as I will come back to it when I am ready to let them go.....

There is some guy on Craig's List in Largo looking for chickens. It doesn't say how many he wants. Just type "chickens" in the search box.
My son is also having a ball with the chickens, but my challenge has been to stop him from chasing them around the yard as they dart around squaking in terror. Other than that he's great with them. I'd love to put a picture up, but can't figure out how. Hints, anyone?

Thanks so much. I will keep it in mind but at the moment I have a lot of chicks....

I have to see how thing's turn out in a few months. I may have reached my limit and goal of hens....

I don't think I will have any problems getting rid of the extras. The last time I posted on Craigs list, the chicks were gone in 20 minutes from the time of posting.

I cleaned out the brooder today and took a good look at what I got.....

I took all the old paper out and put new paper in. I then put one chick back in at a time. Here is what I have...

Blue and Black Ameracaunas: 5

Wheaton Ameracaunas: 11 (all from Peachick)

Light Sussex: 5 (I think.... one could be a wheaton ameracuana but I'm not sure....)

BLR Wyandottes: 4

Blue Copper Marans: 3

Black Copper Marans: 7

Wheaton Marans: 2

Welsummers: 3

For a grand total of 40..... hmmmmm... I know I counted 39......

I guess one of the above is overcounted by one..... Not sure which one. I will have to edit this when I take them all out again...... I was sure I was counting them right......

Derrick - - - It is going to be awfully hard to make a choice with that many chicks.

I DON't envy you. I had my choice of 2 out of 7 EE's. That was a tough choice. You have your work cut out for you.
