But how did you get them to stay put and not jump out as fast as you loaded them?

I covered the basket with a cloth and put them under it. They're feisty little ones! Had to leave them covered for a few minutes til they got quiet just to get them to stay still long enough for a picture!

Fortunately, she didn't bully the chicks and even let them cuddle under her when they went to sleep.

I would be tempted to leave her with them. Protection from the bigger girls and an educator.

This January-hatch Blue Australorp pullet somehow got into the integration pen while I was feeding the 4-week-olds yesterday. I couldn't catch her so I had to wait until after dark to take her out.

Fortunately, she didn't bully the chicks and even let them cuddle under her when they went to sleep.
