Oof, I didn't realize I was so far behind in this thread ...
But I just wanted to say two things, first that this is a gorgeous rooster and beautifully presented here!
And second, thank you for giving him his correct breed name, Marans with an S. I've noticed this year that even some of the hatcheries, gasp, are saying "Maran" for the singular and Marans for the plural. People, NO, Marans is the breed name, and it's "Marans" whether singular or plural. Just like sheep is the same whether you're talking about one or a hundred. It is pronounced Mah-rahn for the singular or for the breed name, and I assume Mah-rahnz for the plural? Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong or validate me if I'm correct?
I have always been somewhat confused on the spoken pronunciation. Most of my knowledge what I have learned online. I hear it pronounced several different way on YouTube I never know who to trust on YouTubeOof, I didn't realize I was so far behind in this thread ...

Thank you! If you have ANY exposure to the French language, you are light-years ahead of moi!Hopefully my years of French won't disappoint me, but I'd assume both plural and singular are pronounced the same. Given that Marans is a place, there can't be a plural. I'd think the same would hold true for D'Uccles, and other breeds that got their names from places. Similar to how we would say "I have four Jerseys giants". The Jersey would be pronounced the same. Hopefully the French speakers will agree with me![]()

Bah! Won't play for me right now ... terrible connection at this time of night. I will trust your word, mon ami! (Is that right?)![]()
Thanks! And that totally exhausts my French vocab!Oh I take no responsibility for the pronunciation itself, only that its the same across plural and singular! If the pronunciation in the video is wrong, blame the French guy
! Yes, Mon ami is correct!
