Pictures of my babies!! Picture overload...

Hence my confusion. Of course, it's all a moot point anyway! I'm just a control freak with absolutely no patience, that has to "have all their ducks in a row." Heh heh. Time will tell. And as the muggles say, "The truth will out! Yes?"

Those are pics of day olds so it would apply. Once they are a few days old their bills have already changed color and it isn't accurate. You said you got them when they were 4 days? So you kinda miss the boat. But they are soooooooo cute! The wait with my pekins to know who was who killed me.

JessiLynn those are some GREAT photos! I never did get any good shots of my ducklings. You will be amazedto see how fast they grow! Good that you got the largeer bag of feed, you'll need it!

Thank you! I sure enjoyed photographing them! I'm looking forward to getting some more today. :) They don't flinch at the sound of my shutter now... I'm training them young! lol

So sorry to butt in but I need help with sexing out ambiguous duck bill. I don't care if I have two females or one of each, just wanted to mentally identify them for their gender. I'm in the fence with my guess since I've seen pics of other ducklings with similar bills identified as female. Just wondering what more educated opinions were.

This is Tater.

This is Tater and Tot. Easy to see that Tot is a female. The rest of the ducklings they were with had much darker bills with no trace of pink. I went with the "next lightest" of the the bills for the second one.
I'm pretty much as amateur as they come in this whole duckling thing, but based off my drake I would guess that they are probably both females. The one closest in the picture could possibly be a male, but I think my drake had a slightly darker bill that yours. They were 3 days old when we got them, but my 6 year old picked up on the difference in the bill color and proclaimed that was the boy. I thought she was just guessing, but nope...it was in fact the male and she went on to explain his beak was darker. lol But, I agree- they look like Welshes to me! Cuties!

A week old today- so it will definitely require a photo shoot of sorts. Here is the video from day one at their new home, 3 days old. They were soo little.

I love the one on the right pecking the center one in the head and being ignored. Pecking order is so important to them soooo early.

hah hah I laugh at them doing that. So, is that what they are establishing? The pecking order? I've been watching to see who will be the boss, but It isnt super noticeable just yet!

Yup. 1 pecks 2. That says I out rank you... If 2 pecks 1 back that says no you don't. If 2 takes it repeatedly like in the video, 2 says yes you do and if they get along it should die down over time. The boss is the one who can peck everybody and nobody pecks back. Once the order is cemented in, there is very little pecking unless 2 birds just don't like each other (doesn't have to be mutual) or someone thinks they should shift in the order. My flock is just over a year old and my Black Swedish will always peck my White Crested, and my White Crested will always peck one of my Rouen girls (Tella) and my Blue Runner will always peck my Blue Swedish. My Cayuga pecks everybody except my Pekin, Snow. NOBODY pecks Snow. But there is still not that much pecking. Those pairs tend to avoid each other.

My Cayuga decided right off the bat she was in charge and started pecking everyone. Two weeks old and everyone leaves her alone now.

Wow!! That is actually really interesting. I'm going to watch them in a completely new light now.
