Pictures of my babies!! Picture overload...

I have a 20x20 pen that I keep the big ducks in, plus I have a decent sized yard with 6' high privacy fencing. I can let the big ducks out in the yard, and keep the little ones in the pen so they're easy to catch. So far, they don't run from me while we're in there, so I haven't had any problems catching them. I would imagine one of the puppy playpen fences would work pretty well for the same purpose.

That is a good idea, thank you! My husband is picking up material for the duck house tomorrow! He has half days of work the rest of this week, so he will be able to get started on it. So excited to get it going! :)

I'll have to invest in a big bag of mealworms.

Yeah, that was my plan, to bring the littles out every day for a while so the big girls can see them through the fence. I've been letting the big girls out into the backyard, then taking the little ones into the pen so I can keep an eye on them, and keep the bigger ducks away from them. I think we might spend a bit longer out there today, it's supposed to be in the 80's this afternoon (What the heck, March???), so it should be plenty warm for them to run around and maybe swim for a bit.
Eventually you might want to look into exoticnutrition.com or chubbymealworms.com to buy your dried meal worms in bulk. (It goes back an forth who is cheaper and depends on how many you get). Buying them in the small pet store size packets is very expensive. (You can also look into raising your own meal worms, but that is not for every body and my ducks like the dried better than live... Go figure!) The bulk meal worms have some pupa and the occasional beetle, but the ducks don't mind at all. We get 44 lbs at a time then pour them into Lowes 5 gallon buckets. We also store their food, cracked corn, oyster shell and grit in those buckets, then put the buckets in a deck bench. Most 50 lb bags (food, corn, oyster shell) pour into two of those buckets making them easier to handle and 50 lbs of grit will fit in one bucket and 11 lbs of meal worms fits in about 1-1/2 buckets. This has worked so well for us that we actually bought a second bench this spring so we have the first bench set up like so:

And the second bench is overflow. Before we got the overflow bench, we didn't have the grit / oyster shell in bulk and we would typically use only two food containers (one bag) at a time and got the meal worms 22 lbs at a time instead of 44 lbs. Then shuffle around the overflow. BTW walking toward this bench ALWAYS gets the ducks attention. Well I babbled on excessively for a minor comment on meal worms

but this has worked so well for us that I wanted to share.

Thank you for sharing that! Very helpful. My ducklings so far havent been super fond of any of the "Treats" I've given them. I chopped up some dandelions and put in their water. They act like they can't get enough... but seem to have a hard time getting them down, or they are purposely spitting them back out... because they always wind up on the floor. I really hope I don't have the only Ducks on the planet that don't like dandelions, because that was a big motivator in getting my husband on board. He DESPISES dandelions in our yard! lol I did buy some frozen peas and I pinch those before giving to them. They don't seem to care for the skin of the pea. They like them, but don't LOVE them. Any thoughts on that? I want to really win them over!

Some of my ducks eat the whole pea some don't like the skins. The ducklings shouldn't get too many treats anyway. They need a very balanced nutrition. Give them time, love, handling, talk to them, sing to them make all that stuff normal for them. The treats are mostly for the big ducks. Once your ducklings get fully feathered and are moved from their brooder to where they will live, they will get scared again. This is normal. So when your 'lings go to sleep for a mass nap, start practicing on your big ducks. Get them to eat out of your hand. Then close your hand while they eat so you are loosely holding their bills. Then after you close your hand on their bills (not restraining them, just encircling them) stroke their faces with your thumb. Then bring the stroke down the neck and eventually down the crop. They will walk away, but then come back. Eventually they will like their faces stroked and under their necks and their crop area. They don't seem to like to be touched on the back much. If you get the big ducks on your team by the time the little ducks start getting scared, it will make it easier because they will hang back and watch the big ducks then get bold a little quicker.

This VERY much appreciated. I've been wondering how to store our food so it won't attract mice. I'll grab some of those buckets next time I go there!

This is the deck box we got. It isn't the prettiest, but no mice / insects have gotten to our food / treats and it is the only one I could find that would easily hold 8 5 gallon buckets. The back hinge set-up is kind of wobbly, but nothing has broken and the first one has been exposed to the elements in Montana (some heat, lots of direct sun, severe cold, a few days of rain / snow) over a year and the brand new one we just put in next to it looks just the same.

Nice! I have a 10x10 "spare room" off the back door, I can just stack buckets there. It's our storage room, since there is little to no heat/cooling in that room. It's more of a covered porch off the bedroom than an actual usable room. It's where the ducks are going to live (in a kiddie pool) after they outgrow the bathtub. Which will probably be in another few weeks.

Looks like you got it covered, but in case others were looking too (and I did just go outside

), here is the setup:

Now you have to realize I went out, opened it up and took a picture. Just so you can see how hard Pavlov works, I turned to the right and took another picture:

When I stepped out they were on the other side of the yard around the pool....
