I got a little pullet egg from under the roost so I think my second BO has started to lay!!! All of my girls are laying now!!! (except Queenie has been on strike...)
I collected an egg from the doghouse nest today. Not 100% sure who laid it though - one of the sexlinks I know. Queenie my favorite RSL hen hasn't been laying, but I saw her sitting in the doghouse nest yesterday so it could be hers. I was a bit worried about her yesterday she went to roost before anybody else, and she used to be top ranking hen. Maybe she has just fallen on the todem pole?? Today she came right out of the coop all bright eyed and bushy tailed so I think she's feeling fine. Hopefully she starts laying regularly again.
The only thing I can think of is maybe she's not eating enough oyster shell or somethin.....she is the one hen who seems to do better on Layena (instead of Flock Raiser) but since all of my pullets are laying now I bought them a bag of Layena last week.
The "beak count" is up to 20 chicks and 10 adults, plus 20 eggs in the 'bator OMG I have chick-itus!
There are 11 chicks outside on the ground, ranging from a little over a week old to about a month old - 5 TSC chicks (3 EE and 2 BR I think) 3 Dominiques and 3 Cuckoo Marans.
I thought I was going to have to brood my itty bitty babies outside because of the giant dog beds taking up all the space -- but I just got creative!
I know the pic is terrible but you can see that I have a brooder on top of the XL dog crate!!!!!!!
In that brooder I have 7 brand new 4-day-old Black Copper Marans, 1 Blue Marans and 1 week-old Cuckoo Marans who wasn't meshing well with the older ones.
