I know that I have 4 little cockerels in the bunch. The whiter BSL is named "Stripey" but none of the others have names yet (I suck at naming)

Anyway, I heard strangled cat noises from the chicken tractor yesterday! They're only 2 months old!!!!!!

They are sooo cute and look how much they are growing! Chickens are ones that never get ugly! They only get CUTER!

I let the youngins out to free range this afternoon --- and left the adults locked in the coop. There were many complaints from the hens, but then I gave them some turkey bones to keep them happy for a while.

I thought this was a neat picture. Right as I snapped it Tiger meowed at me demanding some attention:

Cats and dogs together with chickens???

Today the nicer of my two BSL cockerels was doing a really good crowing impression for DH! I think he's about got it down, he just needs his voice to mature a little!
It was SO cute watching him arch his neck up just like the big guy!!!!

Stripey, the other BSL cockerel is turning kinda mean. Guess he already figured out that he was destined for soup, and he's trying to get his revenge while he still can!

My chicks often have a heck of a time getting themselves to bed at dark. They act like dumb chickens and sit at the side of the pen, somehow forgetting where the door on the end is

Anyway to alleviate this problem I added RUNWAY LIGHTS!!!
One strand of LED Christmas lights (multi colored, no less) strung on top from the door of their run into their doghouse. Set on a dusk timer to come on and only stay on for 2 hours. Suddenly everyone makes it to bed and mom doesn't have to play chase! Woot!

I need to get a picture, but it's raining tonight. In fact, it's FLOODING

Pictures of my flock today, after the big rain/flood.
This bucket was EMPTY before the rain started. It holds 8quarts and it's 8" tall. It's out in the grass, away from trees or overhangs. That all fell as rain, no runoff.

I fed them some BOSS, but they're gonna have to go fishing for it - duck style!

The neighbor's yard doesn't drain well . . . this water came in my coop last night

creating this hole and washing away lots of my sawdust bedding

I planned on the runoff from the coop and my OWN yard, but I never really expected over 8" of rain in one night either so I didn't count on the neighbors' yard!



The babies are somewhat drier in their doghouse because it's about 6" off the ground with a solid floor. 5 of them were roosting out of the rain when I went out to get eggs during one of the non-rain breaks

Their run was a big puddle last night. I waited until the rain had slacked off to let anyone out, so it was almost noon before I opened the coops today.

They got some BOSS too
