Pictures of my flock

Today I was out cleaning and winterizing the coops and took some pix.

Today we got out of the deep freeze, at least during the afternoon hours. I worked in the evening so I got to enjoy some of the sunlight! I sat out without a heavy coat on!!! and took some pictures with my phone. The Buff Orp babies are finally seeming to grow up a bit --- seems like they are slow growers compared to the BSLs.

One of the BSL pullets is getting red-faced all of a sudden! They will be 4 months old on Jan 27th so she's maturing FAST! I expected that they wouldn't lay till spring, but I guess we might be getting pullet eggs in a few weeks! Her "twin" sister is still baby-faced with tiny, almost flesh colored comb/wattles.

Unfortunately miss hot stuff wouldn't pose for a picture. All I got were cockerels today. lol

"Mr Rooster" aka Big Boy
My RIR king of the flock -- will be 1 year in April.
Lovely view of the dog rolling in the background!!!!!!!!!

One of the Leghorn ladies, either Blacky or Cracker, can't tell because Blacky lost her zip tie somehow (it WAS on loosely)
All the ice I took out of the water buckets this morning, plus some from the previous days....it melted down completely today for the first time in a week or so!!!

Unnamed Buff Orpington cockerel: "Mr. red zip tie" is hard to catch, which is what I marked him with the zip tie for. I was sitting on the ground and he came over to check me out after the boss got done.

Tonight, I tortured them with the application of Leg Bands!

Oh how it annoyed them, I think this pic of Mr Rooster says it all! I seem to have put a big dent in his dignity!

Look at those tails! They were NOT happy with their bracelets!

I haven't handled the BO chicks very much. This one has a perky personality, I think we're gonna be friends!

She's also getting a bit red-faced. When I went to get her out of the tractor I thought she was a cock when I first looked! It didn't help that she bit me too! lol
They are about 14-15 weeks old now.

ETA: took this on my phone the other day. She used to be called Blacky because she had a black zip tie leg band. Well, now I call her Blue. Apparently she's at the bottom of the pecking order and she doesn't really seem to mind the fact. She's not acting afraid of any of the other birds, but in the morning time before I let them out of the coop they seem to be pecking her head awfully bad. When it bled I put blue "Pad Kote" on it (it's similar to "Blue Kote") so hence the name. They don't seem to be bothering it too badly, just normal pecking order type stuff. The skin isn't really broken up, just a bald patch that can start to bleed easily.
She's becoming a bit more pet-like since I started visiting her on the roost at night for doctoring. Today she was following me around the yard

Sorry, I have no idea what breeds. Maybe you could ask in the "what breed or gender is this?" section.

The one in front is most definitely a rooster though.

The little cockerels are starting to mate with the red-faced pullet named Penny.
Penny is still squalking in protest, but she must be getting even closer to laying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me thinks it's time to butcher some extra cockerels...
