Oh, that color is BEAUTIFUL! I would love to have some of those running around!

Here's my rooster RJ. I don't have any decent recent pictures really, because he's not the easiest to get in line with the camera

But keep in mind he's filled out a LOT. He is one gigantor chicken!

Last spring.

His momma is one of my black sex-links. Not sure which one exactly, but they all look basically the same anyway

His daddy Reggie was a hatchery RIR.

RJ is now the only rooster I have with my sex-link hens. Here is one of their babies.

That little guy turned out to look exactly like a hatchery RIR. The only difference being a few black specks on his chest. Otherwise, same color everything. I don't think I have any pictures of him after he feathered out, but last weekend he went to a new home.

Another baby of RJ - his name was Columbus. Again, with one of the sex-link hens. Not sure how this guy stayed so small, but he did. I know it was out of a sex-link because he came out of a giant brown egg. He got much prettier as he aged. Looked a lot like a game mix. He's with someone else now (every baby I've ever gotten from RJ has been a boy!).

The blue hen in the picture above, who is a mix herself, put with RJ...gave me another rooster. He looks like a wheaton Leghorn with some black in his hackles. He also has a little feathering on his bright yellow legs, and has red ear lobes...but does still remind me a lot of a Leghorn. No pictures of him yet, but unfortunately, his mean but is still here...so I still have time

More info on his momma, since I don't have a good picture of her just yet. She's blue, obviously, with dark skin, 5 toes, and a little feathering on her feet too. Her mother is the black bantam hen above. Her dad was some kind of EE looking thing I got from the feed store. He had a tiny crest slicked back, and was a blue wheaton or something. Ugly chicken, pretty colors. Here's the only picture I have of him.

Annnd one last part to this family story. The blue hen's mother. Like I said, she's the little black one up there beside Columbus. Her momma was a black sex-link, and her dad was this thing (looks like a sebright, but a bit too big and poor pattern).

So there's my wonderful family tree of my designer chicken stock!

I have a few other mixed up chickens, but couldn't tell you anything because I hatched them from Bellisamo and lockedhearts. Two white frizzle cochin rooster x silverlaced (I think, from their looks) polish - both turned out to be roosters. And I have three 'sex-link' hens from lockedhearts, as well as what looks like a silkie x bantam cochin. The 'sex-links' aren't really sex-linked, I just call them that because they have the same look as my real ones. They're buff mixes with some black in them. BO in them no doubt. Pretty hens, and should give me lots of brown eggs!

This is BUSTOFF, he is half Black Australorp from his daddy's side and half Buff Orpington from his mom. While not an intended breeding, I am using him in some breedings to see what he throws. I like his Orpington type, and am curious to see what I can make with him. As you can see he is a nice size boy at 8 months old here in this pic,

Cool crosses! I love the odd color combos that come out in the second and third generations.

And I'm a sucker for BIG chickens. I'm going to have to move out of the city and get a farm sooner than later.

Daddy is a white frizzle, momma is a silver laced polish.... and you get this:

With great sadness, the contolled crosses are gone... one got his neck cut by an owl, the other had a heart attack.... right next to him. So i have yet to continue that cross. Mary of Exter (spelling is wrong). Has the same pair. Both boys like mine were. Hope she sees this and posts pics of her boys from my line.
