To each his own....BUT....I won't hire you to work for me with piercings.

I work in animal care...no tats or piercings here!

They're dangerous in my work. Imagine what an ostrich or emu would do to your lip/face/ear/eyebrow when it gets hold of your piercing!!

Tats are acceptable if small, discreet, & few .

I was in a bulk food store (costco, sams, etc.) yesterday, and saw an older lady, kind of heavy, probably in her 70's, on one of those motorized wheelchairs. I noticed, as I walked past, that she had a very large, very nice, naked lady tattoo all up her calf, from ankle to knee. Like a Pinup girl... not horribly obscene, but you could tell she was naked. I just know there must be a story there...

What an interesting thread. Lot of terms I don't understand. Sounds like a lot of medical terminology for body parts.

I find the comments against tattoos particularly interesting. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they answer the question. Fun stuff.

Why do younger people do it more than older people. That's a fairly easy one. Younger people aren't as conservative as older people. I don't mean conservative in a political way either. They are just more open to new ideas and don't have as set of opinions as a lot of older people. I'.m sure some will regret them as they get older, depending of course on why they got one.

havi said it just right.

I'm definitely for both. Being in the horse industry and farming, traditional jewelry was out. Absolutely no rings (broken fingers) and earrings can be ripped out by horse hair and no necklaces. This is where tattoos can come in, mine are spiritual and have meaning about my beliefs. I did have my tongue pierced, but after some neck X-RAYs I never put it back in. I really loved it though. I am planning on more tattoos in my future.

I personally don't like either for myself. I do appreciate a nicely done tattoo on another person though. People get them for such personal reasons, and each one seems to have a story behind it. I just keep picturing myself old, wrinkled and droopy. I can't imagine a tat looking good if the canvas looks bad.

I really don't like piercings other than ears, and even then, no more than 2 on each. I don't mind tattoos as long as they are not covering your body, and they at least have a reason. I have had the same tattoo design picked out for about 4 yrs, but I can never figure out where I would want it.

Just never understood folks desire for either tats or piercings...although I'm not against them. Seems weird to me to want to see the same scene on your body for the rest of your life. Same with piercings...who wants to fool with all that?

To each his/her own..

Its weird, when I was younger (well im 25 but I mean younger younger) I was all up for tats and piercings , now, im not too bothered. You can never tell a persons personality from tats or piercings they have! I met a guy once who had tatoos head to toe, and he fixed damaged furniture for a living in old peoples homes, made a lot of money too! I also met a guy once who was wearing a suit, cleanly shaven and no tats or piercings, and he was a drug dealer! So I guess what im trying to say is.. . . . . do what you want , if you love ducks, then il love you!

thats what i like with piercings if you arnt comfortable with them when your older you can take them out. and tattoos can be lazered off but you still will have some indication that a tattoo use to be there.. but i do like em both. and that post up above me about the lady with the pinup tattoo maybe it was her in her prime.

Most of my piercings were to control my mind when I was 15-24 and in a horrid home till I was 19 and still in contact with said home. Getting gone killed my urge to self harm. Tats have meaning, plus almost no one sees them other than DH.
