I have my ears pierced and I might get them pierced again over the other one. But tattoo.... one is my limit. can't stand those people who have their whole BODYS tattooed

:confused:Hi! I am a dental professional. I am very opposed to any piercings of the lips and anything inside the mouth; tongue, frenum, etc.
There is a lot of vascularity in the mouth and to make an unnatural opening for bacteria is not a good idea. I know that the piercers say that is not so, but I will tell you it is a problem and a potential for problems.
I don't care what you do with the rest of your body but I have also seen problems healing from piercings of the upper/top ear. Again, because this is mostly cartiledge without alot of vascularity, blood to help heal if infection starts, I have seen piercers have to have constructive surgery to remove and repair the infected section.
just my fyi. but I love being asked for my opinion! ;-)
I do not know if tattoos are as addictive as chickens, but it seems hard to stop at just one!!

i like piercings, but i won't do anything that isn't office appropriate. I have two holes in each earlobe, and the rest of my piercings are under my clothes. IF i had a good, steady job where it wasn't an issue, I might do a few others. I like tattoos on other people, just not on me. I have "blank canvas syndrome". One of the reasons I'm not much of an artist. give me a nice, clean sheet of paper, and I won't be able to do anything with it. When its blank, there's so much potential, but as soon as you make a mark on it, you've limited the possibilities of what can be drawn there. same goes for my skin. piercings are different because there are fewer possibilities. there are only so many places that can be pierced (unless you do surface piercings, which i won't do), and only a few different styles of jewelry (which can easily be changed later, anyways).

I've never had any piercings or tattoos of any kind....I guess I didn't want to add or take away anything that God had designed so well. I've seen some very beautiful tattoos...but not many. Most of them look too big, faded and blurry, or tacky. Piercings can be cute if they are small and in discreet areas...the rest just look cheap.

I do think it's very sad to see babies with pierced ears...they never even had a choice and no one can guarantee it wasn't painful... and for what? Isn't the baby pretty enough that she has to have extra ornamentation this early on? If someone was piercing a dog's or cat's ears in the next booth they would be arrested for animal cruelty but it's fine for little children?

All in all, though, everyone makes their own choices when it comes to changing their body and they have to live with it. In the medical field we know that tattoos save lives....it's called the tattoo to tooth ratio. If someone has more tattoos than they have teeth their bodies will survive any catastrophic injury inflicted upon it!

Oh, and the term for the large holes isn't gauging. Gauge is a unit of measurement. You don't say I millimetered my septum. The term is stretching. My 1st lobes are at 6 g, naturally got there just from wearing standard earrings.

My daughter couldn't wait to run out and get a tattoo on her 18th birthday. At 20 she now has several tattoos and facial piercings. I'm not against tattoos in general, but I know that there are very few things that I could have thought to tattoo on my body at 18 that I would still appreciate.

What amazes me is all these kids that do the tattoos/piercings that make them stand out in a crowd and then complain about being stereotyped or judged.

each to their own

(gets little soapbox out)

I hope and pray that my kids never do that to their bodies

ear piercings are bad enough (I don't even have mine pierced)

My DH's cousin has tats all OVER and it grosses me out everytime I look at him, just doesn't seem natural. 1 or 2 look okay, but not covering the entire body. I think people that get them are just wanting attention and most of the time it isn't the attention that they really need

I have three tattoos, and probably will get another someday. I love them still, and they are getting up there, 10 years since the first one. I still love it. They are all three horses, all hand drawn by me and then tattooed on.

Oh, my 18 yo DS got a tat the weekend after his birthday. It's a chemical equation of some fancy sort. Got me, he likes it. Hard to say no when I have a bunch and DH is covered.
