see with my piercings i have my lip my septum and now my frenulum. and three ear piercings 2 in the right 1 in the left. and some odds and ends ones in other places. now i feel it is respectful to take out all piercings for church which i do attend regularly. i guess its kinda weird cause god knows i have them. lol and also for family events and gatherings idk why.

I forgot to add that I think on certain women, belly button piercings are cute...but after a certain age and tanning level, not so much.

I also know a few women, who after breast cancer, had the tattoos for the radiation machine turned into other things. That sort of tattoo makes a great deal of sense to me. It seems a sign of survival, and turning an ugly necessity into an affirmation.

I like to look at tattoos, especially intricate designs but would never do it myself. Somehow self adornment of any
sort seems vain to me. Tattoos or piercings that mark an acheivement, solidarity or great event I can see, but in
general its like breast enlargement or nose jobs, if there is something about your appearance that makes you
uncomfortable and you want to change it up that's your business. My fifteen year old daughter tried to get away
with gauges but I figured out before she stretched her earlobes up and stopped her. A friend had just committed
suicide and something terrible happened to her father. Is there always pain associated with piercings and tattoos?
There's a really neat Japanese short story I think called in translation, "Tattoo". A young women gets kidnapped by
a great tattooist who can't control his desire to dominate her by tattooing her perfect skin.

I have 15 piercings and 9 tattoos. So of course I like them.

I dont mind them on other people..as long as they dont go too far. 15 sounds like alot, but all mine are tasteful. I have a teeny tiny stud in my nose and in my lip. Nothing big or gaudy. The others you really cant see. Well that is if my hairs down, which it is most of the time. I have: daith, 4 reg. lobe, cartilage, 2 tragus, tongue and belly button. The others you cant see. I had my rook done in both ears, but the piercing migrated and came out.

Those were close to my favorite one too! I also had my industrial done, but I changed it out to soon(the bar was bugging me!) and it never healed right. I waited a year and a half and couldnt take it anymore. BUT I plan on getting it done again. But this time having CBR's put in and then when it heals, change to the bar.

What I DONT like is going to Target and seeing the cashier with a nose hoop, tongue ring(& playing with it), snake bits, eyebrow, tons in their ears and the whole time smacking on gum talking to the friend and ignoring me.

And for what other people think..I dont care. If they dont like it, oh well! It has never stopped me from getting a job nor will it. Like I said, mine are all tasteful. I dont wear my lip or nose ring to work and my hair is always covering my ears. As far as the tattoos..you can only see two of them. Which are on my wrists. One is a tiny infinity symbol and the other is a Latin word. Which stands for 'nothing stands in my way.' Both mean a great deal to me, as do my other ones. And as far as people always telling me.."well what about when your 80 and they are hanging to your toes. What would you grandkids think?" Really??? Thats the question your going to ask me? 1) I prob. wont have any grandkids, as I dont have any kids. If I did..I would hope they would look at me and think 'wow, granny must have lived a really cool life. she loved life and lived it to the fullest.' 2) You really think Im going to care about what I look like when Im 80? Am I going to be walking around in a bikini showing them off? I sure the heck hope not!! Most of us know older people and we all know that they dont give a hoot what anyone thinks. Either of themselves or what others think.

It used to be that sailors for the most part wore tattoos usually the name of the ship they served on. It IS done for a purpose but that can vary from person to person but alot do it to be associated with something else and for that reason I really do not care to do it to me as my opinion on that is it is one is not satisfied with the way they look as it is visual. I am sure there are other reasons to get one (drunk) but they are not for me. I have seen some cool ones but the wife forbids me to discuss past girlfriends. They do make a woman look trashy at least the ones that go overboard.

Most of my ear work was done when I was pretty whacked in the head. Kept me from cutting, if I had a new piercing, I had to take care of myself to heal it, thus didn't cut. I keep them as DH likes them, and they don't hold bad memories to me.

I've got two tattoos and as of right now, only my tongue pierced. I used to have my monroe done and had my ears gauged. I definitely plan to get more tattoos, and maybe some piercings again.

My daughter has both tattoos and ear piercings, several of each. Here is an interesting thing that I have observed and I wonder if it is the same elsewhere in the world? Here in the UK, people who work with animals, particularly in the animal rescue sense, who are invariably young ladies, seem to be adorned with many piercings and tattoos. I can't explain it but it is too frequent not to indicate a pattern. Apart from those I have seen in person, I notice it on many animal rescue programmes on te TV. Any ideas why?

I have not noticed that myself with animal rescue folk but I have noticed it is usually younger people. I have seen some women do it just because their boyfriend does and then when they break up they remove them.

One popular reason women get tattoos is it is a way of "reaffirming control of their bodies" a popular theme it seems.

If someone is discrete about their tattoos then nobody really knows why they get them.
