Pigeon loft?

Hey all,

I have an idea I’m mulling around. I saw some pigeons at our show this weekend and I was amazed. I started researching a little about them, but I’m still a little confused. If I were to build a loft into my chicken coop, how would I do that. I would probably only get a pair. These are photos of my current bantam setup, the high side of the coop is 8 feet and the low is six. What would the best way to add pigeons in? I know chickens and pigeons are a controversial topic, so I’m happy for any advice. Also, what would be the best breed to have? We might do them for a 4H project.

What would the best way to add pigeons in? Or if we got homing pigeons and put perches high enough would they be fine?
I would put up a wall to form a room with its own door way. I would make this wall roughly ¼+- of the current coop. You could rough frame this and cover the frame in chicken wire. Squeakers, Squabs, and eggs will fall predator to chickens if left in the company. High perches will help however adult pigeons still may be killed or injured by chickens who live by a pecking order.

Is there a specific breed you're interested in? Some don't care to fly much and if you were getting only a pair they would probably be fine if you built a decent size cage for them inside the coop if you didn't want to section off a portion of it.

Well, I was thinking of homing pigeons, as we have a lot of those around here, but unless we could build a special place for them where they could go to avoid getting picked on, I think we could get some fancy pigeons as well. Honestly, I’m just interested in whatever works best for our setup.
