Pigeon sitting on eggs!

Quote:
18 days. I thought about pigeon hatching other birds and thought it would be pretty interesting. I think a pigeon would stay on the eggs for 21 days. But they could only cover 2 eggs at a time.

My homer laid her first egg of the season the day the water in their dish stopped freezing (Feb 25). 18 days after the second egg was laid one baby hatched. The parents were very dedicated for about a week and the baby appeared to be doing fine, but then they stopped sitting on it and it froze to death

. Now they have a new nest and are setting 2 more eggs.
I seem to remember from last year that after about a week they stop sitting on the babies all the time. It was summer though, and warm, so I didn't think much of it. Is this normal? What should I do about it? This pair was very prolific last summer and this is the first time they have 'lost' a baby.
Thanks, Liz
