Pigeon Talk

Thankyou! He didn’t end up making it. Not sure what it was, I tried force feeding peas in the end and watering multiple times daily but he didn’t seem like he was improving. I do still see some watery droppings in the loft, as well as one of them sneezing (haven’t pinpointed the one yet) and one has some flaky skin on their head but I wasn’t sure if it was molting. I’m really hoping they all recover. Pigeons have been my favorite bird so far and iv barley has them, but the diseases will definitely make it harder on me
I think you have done everything possible for him. Sorry I know you are sad about his loss. They are my favorite too and to me they are worth the heartbreak.

The flock at the moment
they look nice! We would love some individual shots of them as well!

Have we seen finished photos of the loft, inside and out? How big is each section you have, and how many sections do you have? You really did it right (for racing that is, people can easily keep a healthy flock in a small loft) from the start! Good job!
They look good! How is the sick one doing?
I was reading a very old pigeon book, (the one that got me interested in them at the first place) and it said to pluck one tail feather and it will shake off the illness :gig ...

I'm sorry you lost the bird, @Pigeon28 .. :(

next time you get a sick bird, just pluck a feather off the tail ;)

stick with it! It's worth it. Eventually, you will have narrowed down the best guess with the best immune systems, and no longer have many problems.

I purchased some yellow tiger grizzled off of a man who has raised them for years, and he hasn't had diseases for over 5 years, until this year, as he brought in new birds. He even quarantined them! But, his birds are pretty much immune to everything in his land at this point.
some beautiful bald head rollers? I like them!

While we have been talking about diseases, what do y'all think is going on?

for the last several weeeks, my birds droppings have slowly been getting worse. But they don't all look the same. Some are almost just water, some are bright green, some are light brown, some are a little red (perhaps cocci, But i do feed red grit). None of the droppings seem perfect, they all look kinda bad. The birds fluff up more than I like, with the occasional sneeze. What do y'all think?

Did anyone see this and have advice?

@old strain lover ? I have a VERY odd request for someone... Can you please tag OSL? I don't have an underscore on my key board. :)

Thank you! They were sold to me as just Birmingham’s, so I’m not exactly sure. I started with 5, lost one to a rat snake and they just hatched the squabs out a week or so ago. They’re still in the smaller loft until I get them moved. I didn’t wanna risk it once they had started setting

Is that where the term "Old wives tails " originated:gig Haha, I know it's tales,:old

There is more than one way to skin a cat,,,, well:confused:I actually never skinned one, but would like to show you a trick you can use. Just go to name below avatar, highlight it, and copy and paste into your posting, just like I did here.
backyard pigeons
You can also do some modifications to it once you have it in your post. I like to just call you
bp :thumbsup

Both of those will give notification that you have been quoted.(tagged)
Hope this helps.

I’ll post some pictures of the loft later today! The loft is 6x10 with 2 sections with the first section being 6x6, and the second being 4x6. The birds are in the 6x6 section now with access to the front aviary and a 4x6 aviary on the back. The second section I had planned to use for breeding so I have kept them mainly out of that so far. I was hoping the small setup would be more enjoyable and easier to maintain which I agree it is in both aspects but with already having a sick bird it definitely makes me think wtf. Might have to try the tail feather trick 😂

Sorry, didn't see this. Are these the breeders? flyers? or all of them? Have you been medicating at all? How is the weight of the birds? I'm going to assume that it's been hot and humid... typically the time when respiratory diseases like to grab hold. If their weight is more or less normal, then they might have one of the respiratory diseases. How much have they been chowing down on the grit? It contains salt and does make them drink more, so excessive consumption can lead to more thirst, and excessive drinking and looser droppings as well... but your description of fluffing up and sneezing sure sounds like something isn't well. What color does their skin appear if you part the feathers on their breast by the keel bone?

Guys please help
My baby pigeon is days old but his has been empty today
They are not feeding the baby
What do you guys think I’d the problem
give the parent a good feeding of smaller grains. Provide grit too. Give them an hour and if still no, you may need to hand feed.

all of them... I notice it more in my flyer loft, as it's bare wood, but my breeders have it to.

no medication, other than ACV, which isn't one. The weight of them is pretty good, maybe a little skinny. But not to the point where I'm concerned.

It has been high of 90+ and very humid here in middle TN.

they eat a ton of it, and do drink a good amount of water.

let me check and I'll get back to you! thank you so much for your help OSL.
