Pigeon Talk

Pics! Clyde on the left, Bonnie on the right. Single pics are Bugsy. Looking much like mom and dad now! More like dad with alot of blue on the chest/underbelly, and she has one little blue patch above her eye. Lol

Thanks WVDC No doubt of parentage now, what an adorable squeaker. I thought the eyepatch might be stuck food... Do you have some extra perches, for Bugsy and the new ones coming? In terms of feather pattern, is Bonnie more correct? , I mean, without the blue on chest?:)

Isn't it wonderful to watch baby birds grow from pink hatchlings to feathered fledglings.
x2! :highfive:

Ok!

Good pic bio! I do see the red check with the one wing higher. One of my rollers are like that.
We are forcast 4 days of suuny weather starting today. I'm thinking I'll let the hawks get caught up on their hunting for 2 days and then set Saturday for a fly around... that's if I don't see any hawks hanging closeby.

All 18 in one photo!

Can you see how Doba (red check) holds her right wing higher than the left?

I hope you can let them fly and the hawks leave them be! :fl

I think Bonnie is more correct, but I honestly haven't researched it much.
I'm going to add more perches. There are 2 more under the top ones they are on in that pic. I had flat ones, but they didn't seem to like them, so I added the 2 V perches on top of the flats, that's why they look a little funny from straight on.

Dang hawks! Stay away!!
I can see the higher left wing now, but I also see it in a couple others, so maybe its just natural?

I just flew my racers. They trapped in while I was in the breeders coop. Hawks aren't bothering them. I don't know why though! Although I haven't seen a coopers in a long time!

I'm going to start tosses. Once I get a cage built for tosses. Do they prefer more open or closed?
Can you get a basket or a pet carrier?

And good news the pigeons aren't an endangered species now, seems like they're back with a vengeance!!!

I could maybe. I'll see.

Those aren't your birds, are they? How many do you have?
No, not my birds! Ferals from the stables where our horse is. They were getting out of control and there was twice as many as that! So the farm owners called in pest control. Afterwards I only counted 6 birds hiding on the beams. :( Admittedly they were making quite a mess and pigeon poo in the horse drinkers was a big problem. But it seems they have returned! For how long I'm not sure. One got chased into the main barn above the horses by a hawk of some kind, so they are attracting natural predators too.

I used this type of carrier to transport pigeons as well as chickens when when needed. I have a few or these in different sizes also.

If you decide to build a release cage, here is a suggestion (about cages) that some racers used to use.
Cage was made so top half would be completely lifted off, or hinged so when opened, the bottom half allowed all birds to fly up at same time.
That was the type they used for releasing pigeons for races.
You can do the same with the above carrier, by unsnapping the latches, and lifting off the top portion. I know there are also some screws that the edge has. Only needed there when the load, like a heavier dog, or cat would be the transported passenger.
I would just open the wire doorfront , and tap on the back portion of cage to give everyone the notice. Time to go.......:thumbsup
