Pigeon Talk

Here it is
Beautiful bird and I have no idea what it could be called. Pigeons can carry alleles(genes) called 'pale' and 'dilute' and others that lighten the colors. I suspect something like that produced this bird. You could also google 'ice pigeon'.

That does look nice but there is something not quite right about eating it! I bet your dog liked it though!
He did. I know what you mean about eating them, otoh people eat eggs from their pet chickens. It also feels wrong to waste them.

Can I tell a pigeon story ? Okay, the story of Mr Bluebar and the 3 hawks:

I'd been watching my # 1 flock of young birds pretty closely and there were several standouts. Oops, forgot to mention that we are talking Birmingham Rollers here. I never liked to move first year birds into the breeding loft, but these birds were tempting. On the day in mind a young bluebar cock was rolling his butt off - rolling on every turn and doing so fast and deep with great control. My mind went, "He's young, but I need to think about stocking that bird." I called the kit in and as they banked for the third time and were just about to hit the landing board death from the air struck. Birds scattered in every direction, and the Cooper's hawk drove the bluebar into the side of my implement shed. He bounced off the shed to the lawn and the Cooper's struck. Instantly a second Cooper's hit the first on the ground. As I rushed over a Goshawk landed and chased both Cooper's away. Young bluebar lay there on his back, and I was lamenting his death. As I reached down to pick up his body, he slowly opened one eye. The rascal was playing dead. Since he was not struck by any of the hawks he had no punctures, and the crash into the shed did not harm him. He was immediately transferred to the breeding loft, and eventually I paired him with The Clapper, but that's another story. This was the story of the naming and stocking of Mr Bluebar.
Hat's off and a round of applause for Mr Bluebar! I'd love to hear about Clapper as well. ... and any other stories that come to mind.:)

2 Coopers and a Goshawk, just horrible! :hitI can see why that would take the pleasure out of flying.

Thats what they all say "Ill wait till spring" trust me youll end getting some here or there! Do you just want ferals?
No.. I would love some birmingham rollers. Im keeping an eye out for some locally .. saw an add on Craigslist a few months ago but its gone now.

:lau:gig
And some toast! :D
Pallets are so handy. There is alot of people building chicken coops from them. They're just a bit awkward to dismantle but the wood is quite good and solid.
We use pallets for all of our building projects. Built one bungalow for ds1 and workin on another now for ds3. But we use them whole for those.. frame in..;)

X2. I know @sourland said he stopped having pigeons because of raptors. I have no idea how I'd handle having to stop doing what I love because of predator loss. I'd maybe try my hand at keeping my own, bigger ones of course, that eat goshawks!

I think that I'm clear of PMV. It's been 8 days and all my birds are looking good. I've ordered the vaccine but I can't do it until beginning of next month because the vet who I need to sign the certicate is away. I flew 10 out today all returned safe and well. Still missing mama1 though, I think she's gone. But lucky and Boris are definitely paired. They wouldn't come in until they'd finished there business on the loft roof first! I felt like I'd just walked in on something!
