I bet they spent at least that much making sure the loft was like Fort Knox lol

As long as the old one is GONE and the new one is in the same spot, you should be good. Although do resettle them again. Are you going to? Or just dreaming? I dream alot...

I not sure yet. @CacklingRanch 's loft build really made me want to redo mine lol. I'm getting a bit fed up with the squabbling and if I built a bigger loft I probably wouldn't even have to make a few separate breeding cages.

I like that! I still need to get the landing pads and flight cages added. In due time. They have room in their current loft and they're not really flying. More like hopping while flapping. The bird with the band from 16 moves around really well.

I won't be flying these guys. Can't afford to lose them.

• I like the design. I personally would make it deep,,, same as wide.
• 4 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet. Just coincides with standard plywood width size. I know you planned slightly less, and considerably shallower. It also depends how much room you have available in the yard.
• This way there is more volume for them to semi-fly from perch to perch.

I should've clarified that that loft already exists, its the one I have currently.
I like the 4x4x4 idea and if I do go forth with an upgrade it will probably be something of that size.

Ok,,,,,, Just an idea popped to my thinking. Can you just modify this one to be somewhat bigger, like take out the back panel and add onto it from the back.???
Having a loft, already, is probably less work to modify than build from bottom up. You already have the landing perch. You were also concerned about your pigeons homesetting themselves to NEW HOUSING. This way one less concern, or training needed.

Sounds like an excellent idea! If I added 2 feet of depth then that would increase me from a 4 foot wide by 4 tall by 2 deep to a 4x4x4. The measurements are a bit strange on the model but that was mainly for the frame made of 2x4's because I am absolutely terrible at construction and needed to remind myself of the actual dimensions of the interior space.
I would probably have to rethink my interior layout with perches and such if I ended up going that route but it would certainly be worth it IMO.

Can you post an actual pix of the loft and how it is located in your yard. It would be easier to give detailed ideas, knowing surroundings and limitations.
I still have some other ideas up my sleeve, but would be better if I had a visual of actual loft.
I am not very much informed in pigeon genetics, and somewhat limited to dealing with injuries, but do consider myself pretty good at pigeon, and chicken housing.
