Pigeon Talk

It's been a bit since I updated. Miss Olive is doing well. She is so gentle and sweet. Every one who meets her walks away with a totally new view on pigeons. She's still molting heavily but her head has finished at least and she is soft to pet again.

Glad pigeon found a home. Also glad you took care of him in the time you had him.:hugs
And also glad you are still here hanging with us here. :thumbsup
Having pigeons is not a requirement. I currently don't have any, but am working on it. There are still issues I have to solve and overcome. :old
Did finding this pigeon spark any interest in getting some pigeons  in the future?
Yes, I didn’t realize they were so tameable. I have dogs , so my chickens are not considered pets. I also find the relationship between animal and human interesting, esp when they are doing a job for us.

Yes, in looking through Facebook groups, I saw a friends name come up repeatedly. I asked her if she was looking for a pigeon. She said yes. She couldn’t get it for three weeks. It went home with her last Friday. It is doing well. She had pigeons years ago.
Im glad you found her a good home! :love
I sold Shadow and Java, the parlor rollers, today. I feel bad, and will miss them, but realized the cage they are in would be a great thing to start young ones in, instead of building something new. Plus I kept thinking they were cramped in there, but I had nowhere else to put them. And I’m better off concentrating on the Frills instead of multiple breeds anyway. I was surprised they sold so quickly, but glad these fellas wanted them.
:hugs
Glad you could get them sold quickly..

So my two options are to build a small separate unit with two 18x24x18 nest boxes that I could also use to isolate problem birds or I could build them onto the side of my loft and purchase some removable wire nest fronts so that I can leave them open when not in use or lock in a bird if needed. Opinions?
I would probably buy some of these seeing as they pivot and look easy enough to remove.

Looks good! But I would do more than two. You never know :)

So today I went to a very nice gentlemans house, and he had a very nice aviary with roughly 110 birds. They were from the middle East he said. They had slight crest on the back of their heads. He said that their record flying time was 11 1\2 hours! So they're obviously a highflyer. Any ideas what they could be? They were so pretty. He cared a lot about his birds, he talked to them a lot :) and their cage was spotless!
