Pigeon Talk

so random other question. I started with two cock birds and two hens. I sort of figured nature would just take its place. For one set it has and they have bred. The others haven't. I was talking with another flyer and he said they should have been on eggs already. It seems to me the other cock birds isn't handling his business. Anything I can do to help them along?

Are you positive those final two are opposite sex?

Ok, pics of Eclipse and Egan. 4 days old. :p

Lol. I was just thinking about what a terrible friend I've been because I've been gone. I really appreciate you asking. I only had one egg hatch. The other broke and didn't make it. My young bird is doing great though. It's about 45 days old and is fluttering around when I let it out. I haven't taken it for a training toss yet as it doesn't seem to be a very strong flyer. I probably need to let it out more often. Since it's all alone I'm not sure if I should fly my cock birds with it (they have homed to my loft, not the hens....long story).

I actually just discovered over the weekend that my hen had laid two more eggs and they were on the floor of the loft broken. I have to admit I hadn't been paying as much attention to them this last week and it was a real gut check. I really feel like I failed them. I'll be a lot more active with them and on here going forward. Here is the last video I made about my young bird Is it a squeaker now?

Looking good! Once I tagged you, I saw your weren't on since April 8th, and I didn't think we would see you for a bit, but then you got on just in time! Glad your back!

Yes, If it sqeaks at all, it's a sqeaker. So I think you have a speaker :)

That is kinda odd that the pair hasn't laid eggs yet, but I wouldn't be to concerned. I have some pairs that will not breed for me! As WV said, are you sure they are different sex?

I did a release of my three 'single' males today. From the same place about 3-4 miles away. It was a bit confusing for them and a bit kerfuffly leaving the basket. They flew round for about 5 minutes then split in the wrong direction!
Well they all made it back in about 26 minutes! Not a great time but I'm happy they came back reasonably quick, it took boomer over 11 hours to fly 6 miles!
And look who has returned!

I haven't managed to contact the owner yet.

Well,,,,,,,,,, I may have a THEORY,,,,,,, or ANSWER.
I think there is a PIGEON MAGNET, buried in your back yard. :idunno
I searched for images of one on line, so you can start digging for it. This way you would know what to look for.
Came up empty handed.:barnie
I know there are chick magnets, so maybe pigeon magnet is similar:caf

:lau Nice one! I think I'm going to keep up with releasing these three. They're unpaired and can be a bit of a pain in the loft. Releasing them will give the rest a break!

Well the guy came and picked up the stray. He's a really nice bloke. He won't be culling her or keeping her captive. He said he will keep her in for the rest of the week and hopefully she will regain her bearings. He said that if she comes back here then I can keep her and he will transfer the rings. :fl:oops:
He bought her as a young bird last year and has done very well with a couple of wins. This year her first race was a close second then she got lost and ended up here. So we will see what happens when he next releases her!
