Pigeon Talk

Olive is always on their cage because she can see out the front window from there and the little canaries have no fear, since she's been around since they opened their eyes. The little yellow one, Lightning, likes to hang on the top of the cage and will nibble on her toes, and she'll look down and they'll go eye to eye for a second, as if she cannot believe this tiny creature has such nerve! :gig
I see they're getting lettuce. My pigeons love that too.:)

Awww sweetie! Hope he makes it.:love

I mentioned we had an owl nest across the street. Sadly we found a fledgling dead in the street the day after we saw it leave the nest. Such a pretty bird and it could fly, but I think it might have run into one of many power lines in the area.:hit
Aww sorry. That's really sad. poor thing.

Ok so I got the young bird.

It isn't scalped! Which is good, but it has a scab filled with puss, so what do you think about it? What should I do? It's pretty swolen.

It also has a few bald spots on its wing and other side of its face. I think it got pecked on.

Canaries are quite eager eaters and mow through greens. Olive really likes to look at lettuce, and kinda pick at it without eating anything. She inspects it every day before I feed the canaries. I'm told it's not really necessary for them to eat greens like with other birds, so I don't worry about it.

That's a little house sparrow, and it's plenty old enough to be out of the nest. They leave very young, once their feathers are in, often before they fly well.
That's good to know. I watched it last being fed so I know its getting its fill. I didn't see it this morning though.
They're grown up. I'm socializing them now to trust people. They will sit on my hand for their favorite treats, lettuce and apples. The parents hatched another clutch of 4 last week!

Aww, they look lovely. We used to have some cage birds but they were quite messy.

That's good it isn't scalped but looking at how it's feathers are missing could it be from mating? Not sure what to suggest it's scab but could you use some wound cream like neosporin? It may clear up on its own though.
