Pigeon Talk

That's good it isn't scalped but looking at how it's feathers are missing could it be from mating?
It is a young pigeon, so most-likely not mating wounds. My theory is..... It is a male young squab, and other males in loft tried to finish it off early on. I think TLC with good nutrition is all that he needs. :)

Ok thanks ccuk, and cavrmanrich. I think 'he's' a male. I'm just going to continue giving him some tlc. Would y'all put him outside with others before the scab heals? Will other cockbirds pick at it?
I would keep him separated at least until healed and slightly more grown. If you could house him in loft but separated by a netting barrier, I think would be fine. Remember he has no parent to run next to for protection, like your other squabs, had as growing up.
After a while,,,,,, watch the interaction when you put in with rest of your homers....:thumbsup
This is basically similar advice that is for integrating new chickens to existing flock.
Do you know his hatch date??? so you keep track of age? Approximate is close enough:caf

Ok, thanks. Hatch date, hmmm. Probably guessing a month.

I'll think of setting up a meeting barrier. If nothing else, I have a coop with 2 homers in it, and that's it. Thats where I may try to settle him into. Although they are mated, and about to nest. So that may not be a good place.

Yep I agree. The only thing I'm nervous about is the scab. I wonder if it may get infected. What do you think?
Edit added ... Do you think there is pus in there? I understand that in birds the pus is more solid than in mammals - might have to be cleaned out, I'ds ask @casportpony
I banded both of Doo's babies today(day six) despite a large difference in size. #1743 is 180 gr and 1744 is only 110 gr. We will see if 44's band stays on.

on Wed I found 1744 with some small injuries to the face area. I'm not sure what happened... it could be from toenails when he got steped on? or could his nest mate have pecked him? This pic is 24 hrs later and it looks like it's healing, I think...

The wounds are sort of in the same area as the ones on @backyard pigeons 's new bird.

One of my roller squats that I have right now, has a similar injury. I think it's when the parents sit on them and the toenails hit them.

The past clutch of the same parents, the 2 baby's got trampled. I think it's the cock. Hes a big old thing and I think when another bird flys to the box, he runs off of the young really quick. Because the trampled squabs looked like the injury mine and yours had.

Yes I do thinl it's pussed up real big. I thought I mentioned that, but I forgot to.

@casportpony here's a back story. I got an injured squeaker that someone didn't have time to take care of. It was being bullied big time. Well I got it, and it isn't in as bad of shape as I thought. But there's a scab filled with puss. Any ideas what I should do?

Based on your examples, I think that's what it is. This is the first time I've seen it.

I had either prince or beauty get a couple of scratches on their back from being stood on. There was quite alot of blood but it healed up on its own quickly. Never had any head injuries apart from squeak getting scalped. @backyard pigeons has your new birds face get a scab over the pus? Could you scratch it and clean it with some sterile water?
