Those are the best kind to have! :gig

They are beautiful Turk! :love
Im so happy for ya! :celebrate
I caught a chicken in one. I put one in the run last year and I heard all this commotion and one of my pullets came running out screaming. I saw something hanging of her leg. I thought she had been injured badly. Turns out it was the fly paper stuck around her leg. She lost a few feathers when I removed it.
Ds1 got his hair caught in one once.. he long hair and he had it in a pony tail.. I hung the fly strip a bit to low..:lau:oops:

Thanks :hugs i Still cant believe they took all but 1 of my quail. 42 birds lost in 5 days. No more losses since i did the first treatment though i stayed on top of it. I jus yest heard from my landlord how his friends mom lost all 25 of her chickens to them.

I was able to save the hen in the coop w her sister (the only chicken i lost.) She was to the lethargic stage but i got her to eat some eggs and nutridrench and it was touch and go for awhile but she survived.

ETA the vet was highly impressed that she survived she hadnt ever heard of a hen getting past the toxemia.
That's insane! I know that anything that's sucks blood from your birds can potentially kill them but to lose that many! I hope it improves for you and you can replace your losses. Have you got a plan if they comeback?

Oh yea buddy ive got a plan, Death To Them ALL! Seriously now, It was insane and thats why i said about it being only 5 days-- im not some kinda slacker, i was pulln my hair out. The chemicals did a number on em but i wanna stock up on vanilla air fresheners (like the tree kind) to hang in every cage next season. I wont ever not have permethrin on hand again if i can help it. I used the mess outa that so that i could bring my little ones outside. I had sprayed my yard, the neighbors on each side, neighbors across the st, and the pasture behind my house. Finally was able to bring the little ones outside about a month into my war but like i said before i had to keep it up or the numbers would explode again when i missed the day after a storm. Also next yr itll be War the moment i first get bitten.

They're beautiful! I kind of miss my quail. But with everything else it was too much.

Thanks! Theyre so easy tho and so Tasty! :drool

Can you get citronella garden incense sticks? I wonder if they would help them to keep them at bay?

Somewhere along the line i thought someone told me citronella isnt safe for birds but yea man they carry those things year round at my walmart :lau being in the swamp you expect a certain amount of insect nusience. I saw no head shakes over here thought the brids were protected by their feathers. When they started dying i had thought it was arsenic in the wood ash id given them so i pulled apart every coop and cage replacing every bit of bedding i could. I only know the real culprit because of the necropsy and i thank God i went n had someone do that or i wouldve blamed myself the rest of my life.

No worries dear soons i declared war the death stopped. The first treatment was just vanilla extract and water but it held the bugs at bay til i got some chemicals.

Most of the deaths will occur from toxemia in the saliva is an anticoagulant that kills em pretty fast but they can also die from asphyxiation as the lil demons clog up every air passage. Small birds in small cages dont stand a chance against em.

@Qwerty3159 id give out some nutridrench to everyone in hopes of kicking em into high gear to keep em from getn lethargic. If they get lethargic theyll likely turn their nose up at feed thats why the scrambled eggs so i could keep Something on that poor hens tummy.
